Miami Dolphins partner with Univision Radio.

The Miami Dolphins announced a new multi-year radio broadcast rights partnership with Univision Radio. The new agreement will result in WQBA 1140-AM being the Dolphins’ flagship Spanish-language station. The deal comes just weeks after the Dolphins inked a six-year radio broadcast rights deal with Clear Channel Communications, making WBGG-FM and WINZ-AM the flagship stations for the team’s English-language radio broadcast.

Under the terms of the partnership, WQBA-AM will be the exclusive Spanish-language play-by-play station for Dolphins pre-season and regular season games as well as a two-hour pre and one-hour post-game show, while sister stations WAMR-FM, WRTO-FM and WAQI-AM will provide significant promotional support surrounding team-related content and initiatives. The play-by-play announcer and color analysts for the game broadcasts will be announced at a later date.

“We are thrilled to partner with Univision Radio, the industry leader in providing Spanish language radio content to U.S. Hispanics,” said Dolphins Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships & Integrated Media Jim Rushton. “With the strength of WQBA-AM’s signal and support of its three sister stations, more of our Hispanic fans will be able to hear our games and stay connected with their favorite team in Spanish,” added Rushton. “We couldn’t be more excited to provide enhanced Dolphins content across Univision’s radio network to one of the largest Hispanic fan bases in the NFL. Special thanks to Jose Cancela from Hispanic USA, Inc for helping to make this partnership possible.”

The agreement also includes additional programming elements on WQBA-AM including a live, two-hour weekday broadcast program that will feature the latest Dolphins news, updates and the match-up of the week. The program will air weekly throughout the NFL season and periodically out-of-season. Univision”s four South Florida radio stations will also provide broad support of other Dolphins programming and initiatives including the NFL’s Hispanic Heritage Game, played in Miami at Sun Life Stadium during the month of September.

“We are excited to provide the Miami Dolphins with an opportunity to reach their Spanish-speaking fans through our airwaves,” said Claudia Puig, senior vice president and regional manager, Eastern Region, Univision Radio. “The Dolphins broadcasts will be the perfect complement to WQBA’s stellar sports programming lineup.”

Univision and the newly-formed Dolphins Integrated Media Group will jointly sell radio spot inventory associated with the new Dolphins programming. The Integrated Media Group’s primary mission is to provide the team’s corporate partners with fully integrated multi-media marketing programs comprised of new and existing Dolphins media and sponsorship assets including audio, video, text, and print and in-stadium elements.
