Michael T. Rodríguez has been named Vice President and General Manager of Telemundo 51/WSCV, effective immediately. Don Browne, President and General Manager of NBC 6/ WTVJ, and Ibra Morales, Telemundo Television Stations President, made the joint announcement.
“These are times of historic change and great excitement within the broadcast industry,” said Browne. “At the heart of that change is the merger between NBC and Telemundo. Mike brings the vision and passion to lead Telemundo 51 through these extraordinary times and to build on the organization’s remarkable success.”
Echoing Browne’s statement, Morales stated, ”T51’s victory this July is a reflection of the caliber of the team that is in place there. With Mike now leading that team, we look forward to even greater achievements.”
“Telemundo 51 and NBC 6 are making history together, being the first stations in this new merger to join resources and co-locate,” said Rodriguez. “I look forward to the challenge of guiding the station through this integration and to working with what is already a topnotch team.”
Rodriguez comes to Telemundo 51 from WFOR, the CBS-owned and operated station in Miami. There he served as Local Sales Manager since 1997.
No stranger to the Spanish-language market, Rodríguez has worked for the nation’s two leading Spanish-language radio networks. Between 1992 and 1995 he was an Account Executive at Spanish Broadcasting Systems and from 1995 to 1997 he held the same post at Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation.
“I’ve learned that the key to a television station’s success is how well it informs, serves and reflects the community,” Rodríguez added. “I’m honored to be part of an organization that enables me to have a positive impact on the community I love.”
