CITGO Petroleum Corporation announced the expansion of its baseball marketing effort with the signing of Florida Marlins slugger, Venezuelan-born Miguel Cabrera to a multi-year contract to serve as the Florida face of CITGO in its new Energia Latina marketing campaign. He will also be actively engaged in the community on our behalf, supporting youth-related programs and baseball clinics in the area.
“This announcement marks the continuation of our marketing involvement with baseball,” said Félix Rodríguez, CITGO president and CEO. “We are excited that Miguel Cabrera, the man who finished third in the National League with a .323 batting average last year, was selected to the All-Star Game for the second straight season, became the youngest player in Major League history to belt back-to-back 30 homer seasons, is the fourth youngest player in history to post consecutive 100 RBI seasons, and the youngest player in Major League Baseball history to collect 30 homers and 100 RBIs while scoring 100 runs, is now our man in Florida.”
CITGO recently celebrated the signing of a long-term agreement with the National Baseball Hall of Fame to underwrite an exhibit honoring the contributions of Latino baseball players to the national pastime. The first of two planned exhibits appeared recently in Houston at Minute Maid Park and is traveling to other major league ball parks throughout the summer.
CITGO has long had marketing ties to baseball. The famous CITGO sign in Boston’s Kenmore Square, which looms over Fenway Park’s “Green Monster” in left field, has been part of the fabric of Boston baseball for 40 years. A similar sign dominates the left field landscape at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
