MTV LatAM ‘Tu Rock Es Votar’.

MTV Latin America, Tu Rock Es Votar and the Todos Participando Foundation (LosCandidatos.com) announced the creation of the consortium “We are 30 Million”, aimed at emphasizing the importance of youth vote in Mexico’s next presidential elections, and in turn encouraging Mexican youth to get informed and vote. The participation of youth at this year’s Presidential elections will be crucial, since IFE statistical reports show that more that 30 million youth between the ages of 18-34 will have the opportunity to vote, which accounts for 45% of the electoral. In collaboration with other consortium members, MTV Latin America will produce “We are 30 Million: Conversations with Presidential Candidates” a series of interviews with Presidential candidates hosted by “Noticias MTV” anchor Ilana Sod, which will give youth the chance to ask the candidates questions on the issues of utmost importance to them. The series of 30-minute specials will tape from MTV’s studios in Mexico City in May, and they will air in alphabetical order at the end of May on MTV Latin America, as well as via internet at www.mtvrevolution.com, www.turockesvotar.org and www.loscandidatos.com.

“We are 30 Million: Conversations with Presidential Candidates represents our effort in giving youth a voice to empower them to get informed on the electoral process and candidate proposals regarding issues that are specifically relevant to them,” commented Carlos Magana, Country Manager for Mexico, MTV Networks Latin America. “Through this series of specials, MTV and the consortium will also raise the awareness around the importance of youth vote in Mexico’s presidential elections,” he added.

“Tu Rock Es Votar joined MTV in this process, so that for the first time ever Mexican youth can take the initiative and bring their concerns to the fore and into the agendas of presidential candidates. It’s important to get youth to vote, and more importantly inform them on the election,” commented Armando David Ortigosa, President of Tu Rock Es Votar.

“We Are 30 Million serves as a platform for Mexican youth to get informed on the fundamental issues that affect them directly, as determined by our studies surveying more than 10,000 kids nationwide. These studies also show that 80% of youth vote based on candidates rather than parties, which equates to 16 million potential votes,” commented Enrique Davis, President of www.loscandidatos.com.

MTV Latin America embarks on this initiative as part of its prosocial campaign MTV Grita, which centralizes its efforts on social responsibility, to encourage youth to express themselves and get informed on the issues that affect them, so that they can positively impact their communities. MTV’s award winning campaign “Choose or Lose” is a comprehensive pro-social campaign that informs youth on the political process, voice their most urgent political concerns, compel leading presidential candidates to address those concerns, and mobilize massive numbers of young adults aged 18-30 to register and vote.
