MTV LatAM ‘Video Music Awards Latin America’ @ Miami Beach.

Antoinette Zel, President, MTV Networks Latin America announced that the “2003 MTV Video Music Awards Latin America” will return to Miami Beach and The Jackie Gleason Theater for a second year. The second annual MTV VMALAs will air live in Latin America and on MTV2 in the US on Thursday, October 23.

“The great thing about the VMALA’s is that it brings together a variety of regional Latin American pop and rock artists and international acts making it a truly unique music experience,” commented Charlie Singer, Senior Vice President of Programming and Production, MTV Networks Latin America and Executive Producer of the show. “Last year’s show was full of surprises from duets with Molotov and Juanes to Paulina Rubio and Kinky to the reunion of Soda Stereo, making this year’s show a welcome challenge!”

“Based on last year’s success our goal is to elevate the show’s creative elements and continue to provide an exciting platform that exposes Latin American youth to the music that is important to them, with either established stars or cutting edge new talent,” said Jose Tillan, Vice President of Music and Artist Relations, MTV Networks Latin America. “We expect not only to present great music, but to create unique and unexpected TV moments, which is what our audience expects from MTV.”

“The City of Miami Beach is extremely excited to have been chosen once again, by MTV Latin America as the host city for the 2nd Annual Video Music Awards Latin America,” said Miami Beach Mayor David Dermer. “This is the type of event that showcases Miami Beach as the ‘Entertainment Capital of the Americas’ and the destination of choice for visitors from around the world.” The “MTV Video Music Awards Latin America” will air live throughout Latin America and feature a mix of local and international performers and presenters. The show will be made available to all 35 MTV channels around the world, potentially reaching more than 380 million households in 163 territories. Details of the show will be announced shortly.

The first annual “MTV Video Music Awards Latin America” drew over 410 million households throughout the world creating a global success story for MTV Latin America. On MTV U.S., the VMALAs reached more than 4 million people. In Latin America it became the highest-rated night in pan-regional cable ratings history among 12 to 34 year olds.
