MTV Tr3´s adds new faces.
October 20, 2006
MTV Tr3´s is adding new faces to its roster of bilingual VJs, it was announced by Lily Neumeyer, vice president of programming and production, MTV Tr3´s. Viewers who love urban music including reggaeton, hip-hop, rap and R&B will find L.Boogs on Sucker Free Latino (Monday-Thursday at 3 PM Eastern). Denise Ramirez makes her television debut as co-host of MiTRL (Mondays at 4:30 PM Eastern) and will host other shows and specials such as Los Hits (Monday-Thursday at 2 PM Eastern).
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, L.Boogs can currently be heard on New York reggaeton station La Kalle 105.9 where he hosts “The Show,” bringing the flavor of the Dominican and Latino culture to the urban and mainstream market. Music has driven L.Boogs since his high school days at Cardinal Hayes in the Bronx where he founded and pioneered “Channel H,” a weekly news entertainment show. He continued making a name for himself with appearances first as a DJ, second as a promoter and third as a master MC at talent shows, radio shows and other music events. His next move was to New York’s hip hop and R&B radio station Hot 97, where he began in the promotions department and later made his way into becoming the phone/board operator for DJ Enuff’s midnight run radio show, which he later co-hosted with DJ Camilo and DJ Threat. L.Boogs got his first taste of the road with Miss Angie Martinez, as her back up hype man where he fell in love with the stage and learned the power of a microphone and entertaining a crowd simultaneously. He attended Long Island University C.W. Post for TV/Radio Broadcasting and Public Relations and currently calls New York’s Washington Heights home.
Denise Ramirez grew up between two worlds and is always taking the best from her Latino background and American culture to get the most out of life. She’s a self-described “expert of old school Spanish music,” because she grew up listening to artists like Marisela, Camilo Sesto, and Juan Luis Guerra and is a huge fan of Christian Castro. She also loves The Killers, Linkin Park, Christina Aguilera and says the first concert she ever went to, Outkast, is the best concert she’s ever been to. Growing up, Denise knew as much about the stars of Spanish-language telenovelas as she did about the cast of “90210.” She says cheerleading made her high school years “a blast” because she was constantly surrounded by friends and enjoyed being part of a team. Before arriving at MTV Tr3´s, Denise studied at Rutgers University where she first discovered the work of her favorite author, Gabriel García Márquez, and earned a degree in Spanish Literature.
“Everything about MTV Tr3´s is dedicated to being the voice of Latino youth and L.Boogs and Denise have unique voices that represent our diverse audience,” says Neumeyer. “It’s exciting to give young Latino talent a place where they can showcase the many styles of music that today’s young Latinos want to hear. And just as we are doing with artists, MTV Tr3´s wants to promote both established and emerging talent like L.Boogs and Denise Ramirez.”
L.Boogs and Denise join Carlos Santos, co-host of MiTRL as the first faces of MTV Tr3´s. Liz Hernandez of MTV News in Los Angeles is also providing reports on the Latino entertainment and community happenings for MTV Tr3´s.
