Multi Cell-Phone Households Multiply.

The number of U.S. households with three cell phones increased by 95% from the Spring of 2001 to the Spring of 2002, according to the latest consumer data from Mediamark Research Inc.

In the Spring of 2001, 5.1% of households reported having three cell phones. This year, the figure is 9.9%.

The number of households with two cell phones increased by 36% during the same 12-month period, rising to 24.2% from 17.8%. The slowest rate of increase of household cell phone ownership came in the category of single-phone households: those domiciles increased by just 4% from Spring 2001 to Spring 2002, rising to 32%.
