mun2 debits ‘Vote for your future 2008’.

Continuing its series of originally produced news specials that deal with issues important to Latino youth, mun2, the preeminent voice of bicultural Latinos in America, presents an exclusive election news special, “VOTE 4 UR Future 2008.” Focused on educating and empowering young Latinos to vote in the upcoming presidential elections, the news special introduces viewers to inspiring young Latinos whose personal stories and strong beliefs have driven them to be proactive in the political process. The call-to action news special airs Saturday September 20th at 6pm ET/PT.

“With this news special, we want to highlight the efforts that many young Latinos in this country put into trying to make a difference within the political process,” says Alex Pels, General Manager for mun2. “We hope that ‘VOTE 4 UR Future 2008’ will generate awareness amongst young Latinos of how being proactive can have a valuable impact on their future.”

mun2 examines closely the issues of immigration, the environment, education, and the war by following four young Latinos who are not only advocates for their beliefs, but also public voices fighting for a better future:

mun2 viewers meet Peruvian-born Andrea, an undocumented college student of Chinese-Peruvian descent who shares the experience and challenges she has faced as an immigrant student in the US and how this has empowered her to fight for her beliefs. Although she is unable to vote in the upcoming elections, Andrea is proactive in the political process by working closely with the Dream Action Network organizations to do her part to help pass the Dream Act legislation in California, which would provide access to federal financial aid and a path to citizenship for undocumented college students.

Meanwhile, Dominican-American student Sasha fights for environmental justice by working with the organization Sustainable South Bronx, where she does her part to address the environmental issues facing the predominantly Latino community, which is statistically overburdened by pollutants. Determined to make a difference in the environment, the soon-to-be 18 year-old is eager to go to the polls this year and vote for her future.

Back in California, Hector, a Student Coordinator at Inner City Struggle, dedicates his efforts to establishing quality education for high school students living in East Los Angeles. Through his prolonged efforts, Hector is doing his part to ensure that students from the east side receive the education necessary to make them eligible to go to college.

Mexican-American and multi-decorated veteran of the Iraq war, Gabriel shares his experiences overseas while fighting for his country. The soldier, who was awarded a purple heart for wounds in combat, tells viewers why he continues to support the current military surge in Iraq and Afghanistan.
