mun2 honored with Peabody Award.

mun2 was named as a recipient of the 66th Annual Peabody Awards. The Peabody Awards are generally regarded as the most prestigious awards honoring distinction and achievement within the fields of broadcast journalism, documentary making, educational programming, children’s programming, and entertainment. It is the first Peabody Award for the bilingual network dedicated to Latino youth.

mun2 received the award for an originally-produced news special entitled “In My Country, Young Latinos in the Military.” The special, produced in-house by Alison Fast and Moises Velez, exposes the trend of Latinos as the fastest-growing ethnic group in the military and takes a close look at the options young Latinos in the U.S. face upon graduating high school, with an emphasis on the military and pros and cons of enlistment. The documentary is available for viewing at http://holamun2.com/choices>.

“One of our goals as a network is to spark a dialogue on issues that are important to the Latino youth community and that no one else is talking about,” said Alex Pels, General Manager, mun2. “Let’s just say that to be honored with a Peabody Award among the major networks for this goal is a barrier-breaking accomplishment for us as a network and brand.”

“We’re thrilled that this documentary has been so embraced by not only our viewers, but the organizations that recognize media excellence,” added Flavio Morales, VP of Programming, mun2. “The fact that high-quality and risk-taking content created for young Latinos is being recognized with this award makes it clear that the bar is being raised for programming for this demo.”
