mun2 Presents 100% New Programming In October.
September 5, 2005
mun2 announced that it will kick off the month of October by delivering a programming grid featuring all-new properties backed by a revamped look and feel.
The new line-up is a tangible demonstration of mun2’s commitment to providing uniquely relevant programming with proven genres endorsed by bilingual young Latinos. The new programming grid, effective October 5, features originally-produced, innovative and quality-driven shows that reflect the true voice of its audience. The breadth of the programming will have an inclusive bi-coastal appeal ranging from bi-cultural music genre shows covering all relevant Latino youth music – from Regional Mexican to East-Coast reggaeton to Latin rock – to popular animation properties and video gaming challenges.
“mun2 has come a long way. Telemundo’s strategy to serve all Hispanics in the US and provide them with high quality, original content is ever-present in the new mun2 grid,” said Don Browne, President, Telemundo. “Antoinette Zel and her team have done an inspired job in taking mun2 to the next level and developing a youth network that we are proud of and that truly reflects young Latinos.”
“We’re proud to say that after promising our commercial partners a radically different mun2, our transformation is now well underway,” said Antoinette Zel, Senior Executive Vice President Network Strategy at Telemundo. “We purposefully chose October, Hispanic Heritage Month, to introduce the new mun2 to our viewers, since the network’s mission is to celebrate bilingual young Latinos in this country. mun2’s programming philosophy has been completely turned on its head – with a 100% new grid, new faces and a new brand that we believe stands alone in its commitment to authenticity, quality and originality.”
As part of its effort to extend its unique connection to Latino young adults, mun2 has acquired the rights to air the highly-rated WWE RAW franchise which will debut on the network, in English, on Wednesday, October 5, and in Spanish on the weekend. The show will air twice weekly, as encore performances to mun2′ sister network, USA. Expected to be a signature show for the network, WWE RAW is the highest rated cable television show for Hispanics, 12-34, and whose content straddles English-language and Spanish-language audience themes. Hispanic viewers make up approximately 18 percent of the viewership for WWE television properties.
Over the past several months, mun2 has been developing a new visual approach to Latino entertainment, inspired by an irreverent, progressive attitude that is evident through its on-air look and packaging. Spearheaded by creative leaders in the industry, mun2’s new look features high quality on-air graphics, fresh show packaging, irreverent interstitials, promos and network ID’s that are animated, bright and alternative.
Debuting in early November is an originally-created animated interstitial campaign based on the underground Mexican phenomenon, Huevo Cartoon, an animated series featuring over 200 quirky character eggs with attitude who tell it like it is. Making its first appearance on television in the U.S., the hugely-popular characters in Mexico will be adapted for U.S. Hispanic viewers via a new co-production arrangement between mun2 and the creators of Huevo Cartoon.
Furthermore, in a continued commitment to animation with Latino sensibility, mun2 announces a second co-production arrangement with Los Angeles-based artist and satirist Lalo Alcaraz. Alcaraz is the creator of the well-known La Cucaracha comic strip which is the only Latino political cartoon in the nation and is featured the Los Angeles Times. Alcaraz has attracted recognition as an important voice in the Latino world with numerous honors, awards and media coverage for his powerful, often controversial political cartoons on the Mexican immigrant experience. mun2 will air, for the first time on television, an animation campaign, originally produced for mun2, featuring new characters and new storylines by Alcaraz. The campaign is set to launch on October 3.
In expanding its music and program offerings to be inclusive of all Hispanics ages 12-34, mun2 is establishing itself as the music leader in the Latino youth space, by filling a void that is currently overlooked by other youth outlets. While music is central and essential to all youth, mun2 has marked a particular untapped territory by programming to the duality of the general market and Latino music space. In addition, its choice to air content both in English and Spanish reinforces the network’s mission of echoing the true voice of the young Latino.
