Muñoz to co-anchor news at Telemundo 52 in Los Angeles.

Telemundo 52-KVEA announced that journalist Edgar Muñoz has joined the station as co-anchor of its 6PM and 11PM Noticiero T52 weeknight newscasts. He will join current anchor Ana Patricia Candiani. Muñoz, a familiar face to Southern California audiences, brings a vast experience, solid integrity and proven credibility to the station’s daily newscast. Noticiero T52 airs weeknights at 6PM and 11PM on Telemundo 52- KVEA.

Edgar Muñoz is an accomplished journalist in Mexico and the United States. He has received several awards including the National Prize for Journalism awarded by Mexico’s Journalists’ Club in 2011 for international coverage of the attack to the Casino Royale nightclub by a group of drug traffickers in Monterrey, Mexico. In 2005 he won an Emmy Award for the report “Hell in US Prisons” (El infierno en las cárceles de Estados Unidos),” during which he immersed himself in Los Angeles County prisons to document the abuse and inhumane conditions endured by inmates.

In 2012, as a correspondent for Noticiero Univision in Mexico, Muñoz broadcast exclusive images of the deceased drug Lord and leader of the criminal group Los Zetas, Heriberto Lazcano “El Lazca”; he also completed the train journey called “The Beast,” a ride through Mexico taken by millions of undocumented Central Americans attempting to reach the United States. Additionally, he presented the series “The Potential Presidents (Los Presidenciables),” interviewing all four candidates to Mexico’s Presidency. In 2010 he covered the rescue of 33 miners in Copiapó in Chile.

Edgar Muñoz anchored from 2003 to 2005 the newscast “Hechos 54” at the Azteca America network in Los Angeles, California, where he was nominated for several awards. Muñoz is co-author of the book “14 Thousand Miles (14 mil millas),” collaborating with other journalists on the first Pope Benedict XVI visit to Mexico and Cuba.
