NAHP announces José Martí Awards.

The National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) announced a call for entries for the José Martí Awards which recognize excellence in publishing.

The NAHP, founded in 1985, represents newspapers, magazines and annuals with a combined readership of over 20,000,000 Latinos during any week. The organization has reformulated its award process and named the awards after the renowned journalist, Cuban hero, poet and statesman, José Martí.

Lupita Colmenero, president of the NAHP, stated “This year we decided to streamline the awards and make them more meaningful for our members. We named the awards after José Martí because he was a man of letters who pursued excellence throughout his life.” She added, “We also decided to hold the judging of the awards in one location and chose New York City because of the access to a distinguished panel of judges.”

Judging the entries this year is a panel of individuals well-known to the world of Hispanic print. Confirmed as judges are: Chiqui Cartagena, Managing Director, Multicultural Communications, Meredith Integrated Marketing; Gloria Constanza, Partner of CMS LLC; Terry Mireles, Director of Marketing for Vigo Remittance Corp.; Angel Linares-Lugo, Managing Editor of People en Español; Nelson Fernandez, Vice President of APCO Worldwide; Michael Gomez, Vice President of Customer Marketing, MasterCard International; and Mindy Figueroa, Project Director, Maya and Miguel, Scholastic Entertainment.

The judging will take place February 15th in New York at the offices of Meredith Integrated Marketing. The José Martí Awards will be presented at the NAHP’s Annual Conference which will be held in Las Vegas, NV, from March 29th to April 1st.
