NAHP calls for Fair Corporate Practices.

The National Association of Hispanic Publications, Inc.® (NAHP) called on media corporations to withdraw their predatory practices in event sponsorship opportunities.

An emerging trend adopted by dominant daily newspapers and their Spanish subsidiaries consists in asking for exclusivity when sponsoring Hispanic heritage events.

“We welcome their involvement in the Hispanic community, but we do not welcome their attempts to monopolize events to their advantage by requiring exclusiveness when it comes to sponsorship opportunities,” said Lupita Colmenero, President of the NAHP.

“To allow corporate media interests to exclude small and minority owned print media companies from participating in their community events works against the best interest of diversity and the development of minority owned media outlets in an era of increasing concentration of media ownership,” said the President.

The board of directors of the NAHP unanimously adopted a position calling for all community festivals and Hispanic Heritage events to be open to all media partnerships.

“We look forward to working with our major corporate media companies in a spirit of cooperation, in common community building, and with shared pride in our Hispanic heritage,” said Tom Oliver, Executive Director of the NAHP.
