NAHP – ‘Hispanic Print at the Crossroads of Opportunity’ Conference.

The battle for Hispanic readers is on! The Hispanic print industry has grown bigger and more sophisticated. The 2004 National Association of Hispanic Publications’ Annual Convention mirrors the strong interest in the Latino print market with its theme as “Hispanic Print at the Crossroads of Opportunity.” The Convention will take place at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles from March 17 to 20.

The 2002 Census proved to mainstream America that Latinos are here to stay and, most importantly, to grow into a strong market force. Latinos make up 12.5 percent of the population, which makes them the largest minority in the country. The NAHP annual convention will offer compelling seminars, panel discussions and workshops to provide expert insight to an increasingly gathering of publishers and media strategists interested in the Latino print market.

From esoteric venture capital financing to investigative journalism and sales staff management training, the Convention offers seminars to all levels of interest. Participants will be presented with the most current techniques in Hispanic print. The seminars will provide insights on management such as how to make the business survive in a constantly changing competitive environment. Speakers will also address issues related to front-page feature stories. For example, this year experts will discuss how to better report on immigration and health care issues.

The Convention is divided into three days with a focus on different sections of the Hispanic publishing business. Thursday, March 18 and Friday, March 19, will be dedicated respectively to publishers and marketers. On Saturday, March 20, seminars such as “Running a Publishing Business on a Budget”, the “NAHJ Stylebook” for Spanish-language journalists and “Selling Advertising using a Circulation Audit,” will meet divergent interests of students, staff
and publishers.
