NAHPF & Smithsonian partner together for 2006 Summer Internship Program.

The National Association of Hispanic Publications Foundation is partnering with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History to co-sponsor a paid summer internship for a student who wishes to gain journalism experience with a focus on Latino issues.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should be enrolled in an undergraduate program in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field. Applicants should have superior written and oral communications skills in both English and Spanish. Strong Spanish language writing skills are highly desired. A strong interest in museums, education, natural and social sciences journalism, and Latino issues is preferred, as well as the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

Internship Description

The intern will be stationed part-time at the NAHP office and part-time at the National Museum of Natural History every week, for eleven weeks. This is a working internship that will provide solid opportunities for an intern to write stories for the Hispanic Press News Service about the Natural History Museum’s research, exhibits and educational programs relevant to Latinos. The intern will also assume a variety of roles in daily operations, including responding to calls from the news media and general public, and media research. He or she will be expected to provide support in office maintenance, including clerical and data-entry responsibilities.
