NALAC Leadership Conference.

The National Association of Latino Arts and Culture announces its second annual Leadership Institute, May 14-23, 2002 at Trinity University Holt Center in San Antonio, Texas. The Institute will provide essential training and workshops for leaders/potential leaders of community-based Latino arts and cultural organizations.

This permanent Leadership Institute will prepare young leaders to lead efforts in the development and stabilization of community-based Latino arts and cultural organizations.

The curriculum for the Leadership Institute will address both theoretical and practical aspects of developing and sustaining viable arts and cultural organizations. Theoretical aspects will include philosophical and motivational presentations on such topics as cultural presentation, cultural identity, community development, environmentalism, and other related subjects. Practical training will include a progressive curriculum of subjects on institutional and organizational development and stabilization.

Fifteen to twenty-five individuals will be selected to attend the Institute for a period of 9 days. Those selected will pay tuition of $400.00, of which half can be covered by most state arts agencies (please contact your state arts agency for details). Cost of lodging, meals and transportation will be covered up to fifty percent and matched by most state arts agencies for those who apply.

The Institute will address vital organizational issues such as:

• Historical overview of the Latino Diaspora in the U.S., cultural identity and the arts.

• The emergence and mission of community based Latino Arts and Cultural Organizations.

• Resource Development and Budgets.

• Board Development for arts community-based organizations.

• Organizational Development, Stability and Strategic Planning.

• Marketing, Public Relations and Earned Income.
