Nat Geo Mundo expands programming line-up.
December 18, 2011
Nat Geo Mundo announces the premier of eight new and returning series during the first quarter of 2012. Following the network’s launch in 2011, the non-fiction entertainment channel has increased its commitment to more original programming for US Hispanic audiences.
“We look forward to building awareness for Nat Geo Mundo by growing our slate of programming in 2012,” said Carmen Larios, Vice President, Programming & Development, Nat Geo Mundo. “Our new programming line-up offers our Hispanic viewers a wide array of diverse and entertaining programming choices with these eight new and returning series.”
Premiere programming includes:
PROFECÍAS
Airing Sundays through January 29 at 9 PM EST/PST
Profecías explores ancient and modern-day Latin American prophets and predictions: from those who argue that the world will end in 2012, to those who believe that an Argentine prophet anticipated the attack on the Twin Towers in the 1930s and others convinced of the existence of alternate dimensions. Is there truth in prediction, or are these prophets simply speculators making profit out of prophecy?
UNIVERSO DESCONOCIDO
Airing weekly on Fridays at 9 PM EST/PST
Ever wanted to journey out of this world and explore space in a new way? Join leading space experts, including the first Mexican astronaut, Dr. Rodolfo Neri Vela, on a treasure hunt to Neptune, a tour inside NASA’s tool lab to meet the ultimate robotic space handyman, and explore the most recent findings in space research in Universo Desconocido.
MEGAFÁBRICAS

For the first time ever in Spanish in the U.S., Nat Geo Mundo invites all thrill-seekers and enthusiasts to experience the magic of car fabrication in the popular series MEGAFÁBRICAS. Demolition! Building the world’s bridges, tallest buildings, artworks and peace offerings takes vision, while tearing them down requires its own precise skill. ESCUADRÓN ANTIMUGRE
Airing weekly on Tuesdays at 8 PM EST/PST
Far from glamorous and with a low profile, specialist cleanup teams are tasked with taming filth on a mass scale. From the dirtiest tower block to the foulest sewage system to the highest skyscraper, they keep our lives safe and grime free. Follow the professionals, the science, the nightmares and the danger to gain an inside look at the murkiest of jobs, beginning Tuesdays in January.
CIENTÍFICOS LOCOS
Airing weekly on Saturdays at 2 PM EST/PST
This isn’t you normal at-home science project. Científicos Locos goes inside gadget-filled garages and junk-strewn backyards to meet amateur inventors, weekend scientists and eccentric engineers. They are the brainiacs with a penchant for outrageous “toys” — like a jet-powered minivan, a fire-breathing wheelchair, a water-powered rocket belt or a giant telephone pole seesaw. Find your inner creative inventor and garage junkie on Saturdays with Nat Geo Mundo.
LA OTRA FRONTERA
Airing weekly on Wednesdays at 9 PM EST/PST
We know what you’re thinking … but there does exist another equally perilous U.S. border! America’s northern border is patrolled by Montana police, who track auto thieves, drug runners and trespassing grizzly bears. Join Nat Geo Mundo on Wednesdays to follow police who help a severely injured woman in remote mountainous terrain, assist an Iraqi war vet after a fight on the border and pull over a drunken man who says it’s his constitutional right to drive intoxicated.
LOS INDESTRUCTIBLES

Starting Saturdays in late January, meet the indestructible individuals who survived these horrific accidents and explore these mind-blowing catastrophic events with unexpected scientific explanations.
