National Association of Hispanic Publications, inc. launches NAHP Foundation.

The National Association of Hispanic Publications, Inc. (NAHP) announced the development of the National Association of Hispanic Publications Foundation (NAHPF), the official charitable foundation of the NAHP. The Board of Directors formed the foundation to contribute to the improvement of communities by strengthening the business practices and success of Hispanic publications. The launch of the NAHP Foundation to support the growth and development of Hispanic publications comes at just the right time, according to Immediate Past President of NAHP Lupita Colmenero. “The NAHP Foundation will serve as the beacon illuminating best practices in publishing; creative innovations and successful entrepreneurship in the publishing marketplace,” she said.

Hispanic publications play a vital and unique role in this country, according to NAHP President and Publisher of El Hispanic News in Portland Clara Padilla Andrews. The NAHP, Inc. represents more than 170 member newspapers, magazines and online publications serving the 47 million Latinos in the United States. According to Padilla Andrews these outlets contribute significantly to the economic growth and prosperity of Latino communities unlike mainstream media.

“Our vision is that the NAHP Foundation will empower Hispanic publications around the country to help ensure the vitality of the communities they serve,” she says. “These important media outlets help preserve the values of our neighborhoods. They serve as activists – a unified voice for Latinos – and they have a driving sense of responsibility to keep their communities informed and engaged. We want the NAHP Foundation to provide the resources to keep Hispanic communities thriving.”

“The NAHP Foundation will be the one and only ‘official’ foundation of the National Association of Hispanic Publications,” said Robert Bard, a founding Trustee. “The Foundation and the NAHP Board of Directors will work closely to develop critically important tools and programs to support entrepreneurial ventures in which job creation, innovation, and the economy flourish.” he said.
The NAHP Foundation will work with leading educators, researchers, corporations, and other partners to:

— further understanding of the powerful economic impact of Hispanic publishing;
— train the nation’s next generation of entrepreneurial publishing leaders;
— to develop and disseminate proven programs that enhance business skills and abilities; and,
— improve the environment in which Hispanic entrepreneurs start and grow publishing businesses.

The NAHP Foundation is the only American foundation focused on Hispanic publishing and entrepreneurship. “While our work initially will be concentrated in the United States,” Padilla Andrews says, “we look forward to partnering with publishing leaders around the world to exchange publishing expertise and guidance.”
