NBC5 Partners With Telemundo 52 & ‘El Sol de Texas’ In Dallas.

NBC 5/KXAS-TV President and General Manager Steve Doerr announced that NBC 5, along with Telemundo 52 and El Sol de Texas, will launch a multi-media program designed to serve the Hispanic community of Dallas/Fort Worth.

Under the joint agreement, North Texans can look for news stories, programs, community events and a bilingual website on Hispanic issues.

The co-branded website — with content in both English and Spanish

— is hosted by and now available through nbc5i.com. Visitors to the NBC 5 homepage need only select News and then “Las Noticias” to access the site.

The official launch took place at noon on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Grauwyler Park in Dallas in conjunction with local Cinco de Mayo festivities. Cinco de Mayo, Spanish for the “Fifth of May,” (commemorating the historic 1862 victory by Mexican forces over Napoleon’s French army at the Battle of Puebla) is widely celebrated throughout Texas.

“The recent census figures for Dallas/Fort Worth — highlighted by the explosive growth in the Hispanic community here — reconfirms our decision to recognize and support the needs and interests of Hispanic Americans,” said Doerr.

NBC 5 is partnering with KFWD-TV 52, the local Telemundo affiliate in Dallas/Fort Worth, and “El Sol de Texas,” the oldest Spanish language newspaper in North Texas.

“We are very excited about our partnership with NBC 5 and the ability to better serve our community,” said Wayne Casa, KFWD General Manager.

“El Sol de Texas has served the Hispanic community for more than 35 years, and we look forward to achieving even more success in the future with NBC 5 and Telemundo 52,” said Rogelio Santillan, Publisher of El Sol de Texas.
