Nielsen Media Research To Begin Offering Local People Meter & Meter/Diary Data To New York Market.

Nielsen Media Research announced it will begin to offer Local People Meter (LPM) data in New York on June 3rd.

Nielsen will also continue to operate the current Meter/Diary system in New York for three more months, and during this time either set of data may be used commercially.

Throughout the process of implementing the People Meter service in New York, Nielsen has had many conversations with its broad client constituencies and has heard opinions ranging from strong and comprehensive support to questions about the specifics of the New York implementation. As a consequence, Nielsen believes that it is in the best interest of its clients for both systems to be run concurrently during a transition period.

Susan D. Whiting, President and CEO of Nielsen Media Research, said: “We believe the Local People Meter (LPM) system in New York is far superior to the Meter/Diary system. Even given any questions raised about the People Meter implementation, electronic LPMs are more accurate and more reflective of the community than any other data collection system in use.”
