NPD reports on ethnicity and the frequency of Beauty Product Usage.

As the population of the U.S. becomes more and more ethnically diverse, women of different ethnic groups continue to change the face of beauty. According to The NPD Group’s Ethnic Consumer Beauty Report, not only are there differences in the types of beauty products used by women of color, but differences also exist in their frequency of use.

The NPD report sheds light on how often African American, Caucasian, Hispanic and Asian women use makeup, skincare and fragrance products:

Makeup Usage:

* Both Caucasian and Hispanic women are more likely than African American or Asian women to report daily usage of foundation, blush, or mascara, among those who use these types of products.
* Every day lipstick usage is highest among Hispanic women who report using the product.
* Both African American and Asian women are more likely than Caucasian women to use lipstick every day.
* Hispanic and African American women are also more likely to report the daily use of lip gloss and lip liner, than their Caucasian counterparts.
* Asian women are less likely to use mascara as compared to Caucasian or Hispanic women. Of those Asian women who do use mascara, about one in three of them report wearing it every day.

Skincare Usage:

* Among skincare users, the majority of women across all ethnic groups report using body cleansers, facial moisturizers, and facial cleansers daily.
* African American and Hispanic women are more likely to say they use body products (cleansers, moisturizers) daily.
* Use of anti-aging cream and eye products, is lowest among African American women who report using them.
* African American women are more likely to use acne products every day (over six in ten among those who report using them.)

Fragrance Usage:

* African American women are not only more likely than any other group to use fragrances, but when they do, they wear fragrances far more frequently than the rest of the ethnic groups.
* Almost half of African Americans and over four in ten Hispanic women indicate they use fragrances almost every day.
* Caucasian women are more likely than Asians to use fragrances. Almost four in ten Caucasian women report daily fragrance use.
