One astronaut and two in advertising appear in book about Cuban women

Cuban-American Women: Making History, a book by Arnhilda Badía, a professor and former Florida State Representative, being released today, is a compilation of the lives of more than fifty Cuban-American women, among them two from the U.S. Hispanic advertising industry and an astronaut.

Dr. Serena Quiñon Sánchez, a well-known medical scientist and NASA Astronaut, is featured in the book alongside Daisy Expósito-Ulla, an American Advertising Federation’s Hall of Fame inductee, and Aida Levitán, an entrepreneur who helped found ad agency Sánchez & Levitan and now leads a banking organization.

Cuban-American Women: Making History is being officially launched on, January 25, at 6:00 pm, at the University of Miami’s Roberto C. Goizueta Pavilion, in Coral Gables. The book highlights important achievements by Gloria Estefán, the multi-Grammy Award winning mega star; prima ballerina Lourdes López; Architect Jaqueline G. Touzet; broadcast media executive Claudia Puig; and Guggenheim Fellowship recipient professor Lillian Guerra, among others. It includes a posthumous recognition to the late musical icon Celia Cruz.

Astronaut Quiñón Sánchez, an expert in aerospace medicine, is credited for important research on cancer and Parkinson’s. Aida Levitan founded U.S. Century Bank and heads a not-for-profit arts organization in Florida. Daisy Expósito-Ulla, recognized by The Carnegie Foundation, founded the largest multicultural ad agency in history, The Bravo Group, and now leads d expósito & Partners in New York City.
