Paquirri premieres on Estelares Vme.

Estelares Vme introduces the four-part miniseries, Paquirri to audiences beginning on Monday, September 10 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT).  September 26, 1984 was a fateful day for famed matador Francisco Rivera y Pérez, better known as Paquirri.  It was the last bull fight of the season for Paquirri and the last bull fight of his life.

Directed by Salvador Calvo and produced in collaboration with Ficciona Media, Paquirri pays tribute to this great figure of bullfighting to mark the 25th anniversary of his death.  The screenplay by Antonio Centeno and Carmen Hernandez Pombero recounts the fateful day when a medical team failed to stem the bleeding of a wound caused by the bull that struck him.   Paquirri features flashbacks to the most important episodes of the matador’s life: love stories involving his two wives, the birth of his children and his successful career.

The film was shot on location in Spain at 105 sets across Tarancón, Toledo and Chinchón, and among its locations the largest bullring in Spain, Las Ventas. The producers consulted bullfighter Jose Antonio Canales Rivera, Paquirri’s nephew, for advice on taurine and employed him for stunt work.

Vme’s miniseries line-up, Estelares Vme, captures the imaginations and hearts of families while showcasing the best international contemporary cinema filled with eclectic characters and groundbreaking works. Each miniseries in Estelares Vme runs on four consecutive nights Monday – Thursday at 9:00 pm (ET/PT).
