Pedro Torres: The passing of a Mexican legend.
February 11, 2026

Pedro Torres, the well-known producer-director who had helped pioneer production of TV spots for Hispanic Market ad agencies and would later on shine at the helm of global programming from top-level positions at TELEVISA, passed in Mexico City at the age of 73. Torres had been ill during the last four years. His passing was confirmed on January 30, 2026 with the announcement sparking an outpour of condolences from industry leaders and celebrities.
Torres, who had helped create some telenovelas and had been successful in the re-creation of audience-favorite reality shows such as “Big Brother” in Spanish, had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive and incurable neurodegenerative disease that affects the brainstem and spinal cord, ultimately impairing the muscles responsible for movement.
“Pedro Torres was a torrent of positive energy,” said star Lucía Méndez. Méndez and Torres had been married and divorced, sharing two children. Torres had been married three times and sentimentally linked to other women by the entertainment media.
“Pedro died peacefully, with the same optimistic and joyful attitude that he had lived,” said a source. “He had engaged the support of thanatologists and priests to properly guide him through the final stage of his life.”
Once a bigger-than-life, enthusiasm-exuding personality, many in the film, ad and television circles described Pedro as “a creative man, ‘always positive’ and loyal to his friends.” With a career that had links to both TELEMUNDO and UNIVISION, Torres had his hands on countless projects and had mentored a legion of professionals.
Pedro Torres Castilla was born in Saltillo, in the state of Coahuila, Mexico, in 1953. He died peacefully surrounded by his children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, as well as other close members of his families, including his elderly mother.
In typically Pedro Torres fashion, he had organized a party in Mexico City recently to celebrate life. He had invited all of his family and a large number of friends and acquaintances — including former wives. On that occasion, he spoke from a wheelchair utilizing Artificial Intelligence tools due to his condition.
