Polo Norte Restaurants which announced their 30th Anniversary celebration of its authentic, family-owned Cuban restaurants, which started as an ice-cream parlor in 1992 and now counts with 6 South Florida locations.

Polo Norte Restaurants is a chain of 6 family owned and operated Cuban restaurants in the South Florida area founded in 1992 by the Busquet family. What makes Polo Norte restaurants different from other local Cuban eateries in the area is that although they also serve the traditional Cuban dishes, they have unique signature dishes such as the “Bistec Uruguayo”, serves Cuban Pizza with exotic island flavors such as Guayaba and Cheese Pizza and Plantain Pizza and is also known for its ice-creams in Caribbean fruit flavors such as Mamey and Guayaba. Like thousands of other Cuban families in the early 80’s, with the help of relatives already living in exile, the Busquet family left the island on the Mariel Boat Lift. They had nothing more than each other, a will to make it and to follow their dreams. After years of hard work and sacrifice, they opened the original Polo Norte in 1992, as an ice cream parlor. However, Hurricane Andrew hit it only three days after it opened. With untiring determination, the Busquet family picked up the pieces, and re-opened Polo Norte but this time with an expanded menu, which included “Pizza Cubana” (Cuban Pizza) along with other Cuban dishes as well as their trademark Caribbean fruit flavored Cuban Ice-cream. Shortly after, Polo Norte’s reputation as “the place to go” for a truly authentic Cuban meal, became widespread. Today, Polo Norte has flourished into six successful restaurants, still family owned, and operated restaurants run by the same principles, work ethic and genuine “Cuban” hospitality that started it all.

Founder Raul Busquet remarked” When I think back about everything we went through including losing everything during Hurricane Andrew, I can say that the only thing that got us through this was having each other, our dreams of making it here, and sheer hard work and determination. If there ever was a formula to achieve the American dream, I would say, that is it. But it does take a team and my family was my rock! I am very grateful for the opportunity this country has provided me with. I am living proof that the American dream exists!”
