QUE BUENA LOS ANGELES wins Medals de Cortez ‘Station of The Year’ Award

Que Buena Los Angeles (KBUE 105.5/94.3 FM) owned by Estrella Media, won the prestigious 2023 Medallas de Cortez “Station of the Year” Award last night in Miami. The awards are presented by Radio Ink magazine. The Medallas de Cortez awards recognize excellence in Hispanic radio programming, sales, and management. Said Garcia Solis, Content Director for Que Buena Los Angeles, and producer of the station’s award-winning syndicated morning show, “Don Cheto Al Aire,” received the award on behalf of the station.

“We are thrilled to win ‘Station of the Year’ for Que Buena Los Angeles,“ said Eddie Leon, EVP, Radio Programming and Events, Estrella Media. “This is our first Medallas win, having been a finalist before. This award represents the hard work and passion of our staff, who are committed to the Los Angeles community and presenting and supporting the best in Regional Mexican music today.”

The Medallas de Cortez Awards are named in honor of Raoul Cortez, who founded the first Spanish-language radio station in the United States, KCOR in San Antonio. Finalists are selected by an independent panel of judges following nominations by their peers. Que Buena Los Angeles was one of eight finalists who were honored today at the conference in Miami at the Intercontinental Hotel at Doral.

The award arrives the same week as the news that Que Buena Los Angeles secured the triple crown of #1 Total Market ratings wins in morning, midday, and primetime in the May Nielsen Audio ratings survey. The station has six #1 Total Market wins with Adults 18-49 and 25-54 and eight #1 Spanish language ratings wins with Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 25-54, indicating the popularity of the station and Regional Mexican music in Los Angeles.

The station’s morning show, Don Cheto Al Aire, remains the #1 Total Market morning show for the third survey in a row in Los Angeles. They are #1, regardless of language, among Adults 18-49 and 25-54, and remain the #1 Regional Mexican morning show – a position they have held for 14 surveys in a row with Hispanic Adults 25-54. The show had a +97% year-over-year quarter hour growth with Hispanic Adults 18-49. Don Cheto is also the #1 morning show among Adults 18-49 and Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 25-54 on Estrella Media’s Riverside station, KRQB‑FM.

Al Chile con Marlene Quinto, the station’s midday show, became the #1 Total Market show among Adults 25-54, and it retains its #1 Spanish midday position with Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 25-54. The show had a +132% year-over-year quarter hour growth among Hispanic Adults 18-49. Al Chile con Marlene Quinto is also #2 with Adults 18-49 for all stations regardless of language.
