Radio Unica’s Dr. Isabel On-Air In Mexico.

Hispanic radio psychologist Dr. Isabel Gómez-Bassols, known to legions of Latino fans throughout the U.S. as, la Doctora Isabel, “el angel de la radio,” (Dr. Isabel, “the angel of the airwaves”), can now be heard by millions of additional listeners south of the border, it was announced by Radio Unica. Mexican radio network Red W Interactiva began airing the doctor’s immensely popular, live, daily, call-in talk show this week on 45 stations throughout the Republic of Mexico.

Chairman and CEO Joaquín F. Blaya deemed the announcement by the show’s producer, Miami-based Radio Unica Communications Corporation, “a programming milestone”. Its network, Radio Unica, has been beaming the program coast to coast the past three years to more than 80 percent of the U.S. Hispanic market. The show, which airs Monday-Friday, 1-4 PM (Eastern Time), 3-6 PM (Mexico Time), receives on average 8,000 telephone call attempts per day.

“We continue to be impressed with the significant following Dr. Isabel has garnered among U.S. Hispanics in such a short period of time, and anticipate that Mexico will become an equally important market for the show,” Mr. Blaya said.

A Latina version of Dr. Laura, Dr. Ruth, Ann Landers and Dr. Spock all rolled into one, Dr. Isabel is a warm, thoughtful and charismatic doctor, with a motherly knack for listening and dispensing advice in a forthright manner. Her show doles out expert opinions on a host of crucial and sometimes controversial issues ranging from parenting, marital relations, divorce, human sexuality, education and death and dying to addictions, co-dependency, teen rebelliousness and violence both in and out of the home.
