Rayo Publishes ‘Mamá’.

Rayo, an imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers announced the publication of MAMÁ: Latina Daughters Celebrate Their Mothers, an emotional and powerful collection of stories and photographs about remarkable Latinas, and their mothers.

Written by Maria Perez-Brown, the award-winning creator and executive producer of some of Nickelodeon’s top rated television series for preschoolers (Gullah Gullah Island) and pre-teens (Taina), the fascinating personal histories in MAMÁ explore the multifaceted relationships Latina daughters have with their mothers.

Through stories told from the daughters’ points of view and complemented with richly toned, beautifully cast photographs of each daughter and her mother taken by acclaimed photo-journalist Julie Bidwell, readers will become intimately acquainted with some of the most influential and well-known Latinas in America.

Among the Latinas participating in MAMÁ are media entrepreneur Cristina Saralegui; the legendary salsa singer, Celia Cruz; The People’s Court Judge Marilyn Milian; First Lady of Florida, Columba Bush; Treasurer of the United States Rosario Marin and actress Rosario Dawson-as well as other rising personalities in the Latino community.

They all talk with Perez-Brown about how they see themselves reflected in their mothers’ eyes, their cultural differences and the contradictions, the similarities, the disagreements, the anger, the warmth, the disappointments, the acceptances that characterize the special mother-daughter bond. Each woman is a portrait that reveals a satisfying journey-as each ultimately resolves conflicts, overcome personal obstacles and define life in her own terms.
