Alfredo Richard has been named Vice President, Corporate Communications for the Telemundo Network; he joins effective immediately. In his new post, Richard will be responsible for directing public relations, media relations, events, community relations, employee and corporate communications for the network. The announcement was made today by Jim McNamara, President and Chief Executive Officer, Telemundo Communications Group, Inc. Richard will report directly to Mr. McNamara.
“Alfredo brings to Telemundo a rich array of talent, skills and experience,” said McNamara. “His extensive knowledge and understanding of our market will play an important role in the growth of our company.”
Working closely with senior management and the network station managers, Richard is charged with creating and implementing strategies to promote the company among key audiences and developing Telemundo’s communications function.
Richard joins Telemundo from Claxson Interactive Group, a publicly traded media company with television, radio, pay television and internet assets based in the United States and Latin America, where he served as Senior Vice President, Communications since May 2000. While at Claxson, Richard successfully managed communications through the company’s merger to position Claxson as a key player in the South Florida and Latin American media and entertainment industries. He was also instrumental in increasing local and international visibility for The Kitchen, Claxson’s Miami-based post-production facility as well as personally managing high impact publicity campaigns for Claxson’s talent in Miami and major markets in Latin America. Additionally, Richard led Claxson through a local public relations effort that landed it among the 2003 Top 5 Public Companies in Florida by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and was successful in securing Claxson’s CEO among the Top 101 Global Leaders by South Florida CEO.
Prior to Claxson, Richard was with MTV Networks where he held a number of roles in media relations and communications since joining the network in February 1995. During his tenure at MTV, Richard was Senior Director of Public Relations and Marketing Communications at MTV Latin America in Miami, Florida, where he was responsible for the network’s business, trade and programming media relations, marketing communications programs and public affairs activities. More specifically, Richard was instrumental in conceiving and executing MTV Latin America’s successful traveling “Youth Forums” and developing MTV Latin America’s pro-social campaign, “Voces.”
He then became Vice President of Corporate Communications at MTV Networks in New York City, where he worked on all of MTV Networks Corporate Communications priority projects and oversaw MTV Network’s expanding public responsibility efforts, as well as the development of internal communications programs. Richard collaborated in MTV’s top talent publicity efforts at the network’s annual Video Music Awards and Movie Awards shows and supported the MTV Networks International Communications team based in London.
Prior to MTV, Richard was Account Supervisor at Burson-Marsteller Latin America in Miami, where he was responsible for developing and executing pan-regional communications programs for entertainment and technology clients.
