Ricky gets a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that GRAMMY winning multi-platinum superstar Ricky Martin will receive a Star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. In selecting honorees that meet the criteria of “professional achievement, career longevity and contributions to the community”, Martin seems to embody the perfect fit. Unquestionably the leading Latin music artist of his generation (with more than 55 million albums sold throughout the world), Martin continues to still top the Latin music sales and airplay charts – both with his #1 debuting and critically praised MTV Unplugged album and the immensely successful song “Tu Recuerdo,” which Billboard recently declared as the #1 Latin music single of 2007 thus far. In addition, Martin is now widely recognized as one of the leading global advocates for the well being of children around the globe as both a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and through the ongoing work of the artist’s own “Ricky Martin Foundation.” Through the work of the RMF in the past year, Martin has testified before Congress on the subject of child trafficking, partnered with Bill Gates to educate millions of children in Latin America about the dangers of online predators, and worked alongside Habitat-For-Humanity to complete over 200 homes for Tsunami victims.

Ricky Martin’s selection to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame comes on the heels of other recent/significant achievements such as being chosen by The Latin Recording Academy as its latest “Person of the Year”, the vote of The Latin American Association of Entertainment Journalists” naming Martin as the 2006 “Artist of the Year” and his honor earlier this month in being selected as the first-ever “King of the Parade” for the 50th anniversary of the famed National Puerto Rican Parade in New York.
