Rock The Vote & Batanga Partner To Reach Young Latino Voters.
June 21, 2004
While already the leading minority population in the United States, and growing stronger everyday, Hispanic voters are often easily disenfranchised by the lack of access to voting information. Starting July 12th, Rock the Vote and Batanga will partner in an effort to offer young Latinos nationwide the ability to have a greater voice in their government and increased influence in the 2004 Presidential campaign by registering to vote with Rock the Vote.
The world’s leading online broadcaster of Latin music -with twenty separate broadcast formats reaching over 1.5 million listeners, www.BATANGA.com will provide all their listeners a link to a newly created Rock The Vote section, where they will not only have the ability to register to vote, but also be able to see Spanish language content that includes:
– Translations of Rock The Vote’s “Essentials to Voting” and “Elections 101 Guide”
– The ability to join Rock The Vote street teams
– Sign-up for the Rock The Vote Newsletter
– A link to donate to various Latino programs
– Interviews and video PSA’s from Latin Rock bands Molotov, Kinky & Ozomatli. Batanga will also work with additional Latin music artists to develop further encouragement for voter registration.
“Reaching young Latino voters is a key part of Rock the Vote’s goal to register one million new voters and mobilize 20 million 18-30 year olds to the polls on Election Day, Nov. 2nd,” Jehmu Greene, president of Rock the Vote. “Our partnership with Batanga will help us to inspire young Latino voters to register to vote and embrace their role as the swing vote in this year’s election.”
Echoing those sentiments, Batanga President Luis Brandwayn explains, “We have a very active audience of young Hispanics who have flocked to Batanga to hear music they can’t hear anywhere else, so we also wanted to make it easier for them to obtain the voting information that they may have had difficulty finding elsewhere as well. With both political parties and the media already recognizing the likely impact Hispanic voting will have in this year’s election, our partnership with Rock The Vote is a natural way to help our nationwide audience have a more powerful voice in determining their future.”
