Ruiz has been named anchor of Azteca America’s two flagship nightly newscasts

Award-winning journalist Roberto Ruiz has been named anchor of Azteca America’s two flagship nightly newscasts, Hechos Nacional Tarde, airing at 6:30 P.M. EST, and Hechos Nacional Noche, airing at 11:00 p.m. EST. Both newscasts will be aired exclusively in the United States and will focus on the national and international news and events that affect U.S. Hispanics. The announcement was made by Manuel Abud, President, CEO, Azteca America. Ruiz assumes his new role beginning tonight.

Prior to this new role, Ruiz was news anchor for Azteca America’s national news program Azteca America West Coast. Ruiz has covered breaking news, live events and interviewed a wide range of newsmakers and personalities, including former Mexican President, Vicente Fox Quesada, Los Angles Mayor, Eric Garcetti and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). Additionally, he has covered major U.S. news stories including the 9-11 commemoration, the Federal elections of 2009, the 2012 Republican Primaries, and was part of the press corps traveling with Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney during his 2012 campaign.

We’re pleased to be able to expand his role and continue to leverage his extensive experience and journalistic insight to lead the news team every night from the anchor desk.”

Ruiz is a prominent Mexican journalist who began his professional career in 2004 as a reporter at the noted Mexican newspaper, “El Informador.” Ruiz then joined Canal 7 of Jalisciense de Radio y Televisión as the channel’s morning news reporter.

In 2007, Ruiz joined TV Azteca, Guadalajara, as the morning news anchor and later was promoted to the anchor desk of the station’s flagship news program. A year later, he took the reigns at Azteca 7’s news program, “Info 7 Tarde.”

In 2009, Ruiz was named news anchor for Azteca America’s news edition airing in Nevada, Texas, Florida and California. A year later, he took the helm at Azteca America’s national news program.

Among the various industry accolades received, Ruiz is the recipient of the prestigious, “Tomás Perrin” journalism award in the category of social content parented by The National Association of Mexican Journalists.

In August, 2012, Ruiz was named anchor of the news magazine show, “Hola México,” and in 2013, became anchor of Azteca America’s, “Azteca America West Coast.”
