Major League Baseball Productions and ESPN Deportes, ESPN’s new 24-hour Spanish-language sports network in the U.S., have reached an agreement to broadcast the 20-episode series Sabor a Beisbol for the 2004 season.

Sabor a Beisbol, which premiered in 2002 and translates to “Taste of Baseball,” is produced exclusively in Spanish and focuses on Latin players, with a different player serving as co-host each week. ESPN Deportes will air a new episode of Sabor a Beisbol every Sunday as a lead-in to the network’s exclusive Sunday Night Baseball telecast. The network will show re-airs of the show throughout the week, including prior to its Wednesday Night Baseball telecast.

ESPN Deportes will televise a new Sabor a Beisbol episode on Sunday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m., ET., prior to the network’s New York Yankees at Los Angeles Dodgers exclusive Spanish-language Sunday Night Baseball telecast.

Host Celines Toribio will be joined by Texas Rangers All-Star second baseman Alfonso Soriano who will serve as this week’s co-host. This week’s show reports on the winning streaks of the Oakland Athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals. The show also highlights the achievements of Bernie Williams of the New York Yankees, Jeff Kent of the Houston Astros, Jim Thome of the Philadelphia Phillies and Carlos Lee of the Chicago White Sox.

The show also spotlights Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Jose Valverde while visiting his hometown of San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic. In addition, Sabor a Beisbol expert Jose Mota discusses the possible trades of Kansas City Royals superstar Carlos Beltran and Seattle Mariners standout Freddy Garcia.

ESPN Deportes started televising Sabor a Beisbol earlier this month. The first two episodes featured Miguel Cabrera of the Florida Marlins and Orlando Cabrera of the Montreal Expos as program co-hosts.
