Salma Gottfried announces Retirement after more than 40 Years shaping Multicultural Advertising

After an extraordinary career spanning more than four decades, Salma Gottfried, Founder and Chief Brand Officer of BeautifulBeast, has announced her retirement, closing a chapter defined by leadership, creativity, and lasting impact on the advertising industry.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Salma built a career distinguished by a rare balance of discipline and artistry, combining the precision of a brand manager with the soul of a creative. She began her career on the client side, working in advertising for Loews Hotels, before making the transition to the agency side — a move that gave her a lasting perspective on both the business and creative sides of brand-building. Her journey has been anything but linear, shaped by curiosity, instinct, and a deep commitment to the work.

Salma played a defining role in the growth of two of the most influential multicultural agencies in the United States: Dieste and Lerma. Her leadership helped build both organizations into industry powerhouses, driving transformative work for brands including Procter & Gamble, Gatorade, and The Home Depot, among others.

She was recognized as a “Woman to Watch” by the American Advertising Federation, but her true impact is best reflected in the people she mentored, the standards she set, and the culture she helped build across the industry.

Salma’s influence has always come from the way she approaches the work and the people around it. She brings both discipline and imagination to the table, with a perspective shaped by her Mexico City roots, her early life as a modern dancer, and a career that moved between the client and agency sides of the business. That range has made her a trusted leader, mentor, and creative partner to many across the industry.

As a founding partner of BeautifulBeast, Salma helped create an agency rooted in freedom, experimentation, and performance-driven storytelling. She brought clarity, rigor, and humanity to everything she touched, shaping not only the agency’s work but also its spirit.

“Salma is one of those rare people who doesn’t just build brands; she builds people, teams, and organizations that truly last,” said Aldo Quevedo, CEO of BeautifulBeast. “So much of who we are as an agency is because of her. On a personal level, I will deeply miss having her here — her clarity, her instinct, and the way she always made the work, and all of us, better.”

A Seamless Transition

BeautifulBeast has been thoughtfully preparing for this moment to ensure a seamless transition for clients, partners, and teams. The agency’s leadership structure, processes, and strategic vision remain firmly in place, supported by a strong team ready to continue delivering the creativity, rigor, and business impact clients expect.

Salma has played an active role in the transition, helping ensure continuity across relationships and workstreams. Clients can expect the same commitment, excellence, and cultural insight that have always defined BeautifulBeast, carried forward by the team she helped shape.

While Salma is stepping away from her day-to-day role, her influence will remain deeply embedded in the agency and the industry she helped elevate.

Her retirement marks the close of a remarkable career, but her legacy will continue to inspire what comes next.
