SBS & ABC Radio Networks To Syndicate Morning Shows.
October 10, 2004
ABC Radio Networks and Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. announced a joint relationship to nationally syndicate three of the most popular Hispanic radio programs in America. Under the terms of the agreement, ABC Radio Networks will begin broadcasting KLAX-FM’s Renán “El Cucuy” Almendárez Coello, WSKQ-FM’s “El Vacilón de la Mañana” with Luis Jimenez and Moonshadow and WXDJ-FM’s “El Vacilón de la Mañana” with Enrique Santos and Joe Ferrero to radio stations across the country.
The five-year agreement will, for the first time, give one radio network exclusive rights to syndicate all three regional shows from diverse corners of the country. Moreover, the initiative will significantly enhance ABC Networks’ multicultural presence in highly concentrated Hispanic communities throughout the United States.
“Spanish Broadcasting System is extremely excited to be partnering with ABC to expand the reach of our premier morning shows to Hispanic audiences across the country,” said Raul Alarcón, Chairman, President and CEO of Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. “Over the past few years we have seen explosive growth in the market for Hispanic radio and look forward to reaching an even broader audience through this relationship with ABC.”
Darryl Brown, Executive Vice President and General Manager of ABC Radio Networks, added, “We are delighted to be bringing Spanish Broadcasting System’s hottest talent to a new audience of syndicated listeners across the country. This agreement illustrates ABC Radio Network’s focused commitment to bring dynamic, multicultural talent to the broadcasting spectrum for our advertising and marketing partners, affiliates and listeners.”
“El Vacilón de la Mañana” with Luis Jimenez and Moonshadow has been the #1 rated morning show with Hispanics in the United States, originating on New York’s WSKQ-FM.
“El Cucuy de la Manaña” with Renán Almendárez Coello is a 7 hour program airing M-F 4AM-11AM PST from KLAX-FM in Los Angeles. “El Cucuy” is the most popular Hispanic radio show host in Los Angeles.
“El Vacilón de la Mañana” with Enrique Santos and Joe Ferrero is the #1 Spanish-language morning show in Miami on WXDJ-FM with prime target audience of Adults and Men 18-34 and 18-49.
As part of the relationship, ABC will have the exclusive rights to sell on-air advertising inventory on Spanish Broadcasting System shows on WSKQ-FM, in New York, WXDJ-FM in Miami, KLAX-FM in Los Angeles, WLEY-FM in Chicago and KRZZ-FM in San Francisco.
“With this agreement, ABC Radio Networks can now present marketers with three powerful options to effectively reach the diverse Hispanic consumer audiences. This has not been done before,” said Don Moore, Vice President of Multicultural Sales for ABC Radio Networks. “We have already received an enthusiastic response from a host of national brands who recognize the power of multi-cultural radio to relevantly target these highly segmented markets.”
