Shakira & Pepsi For Another Seven Years.
May 11, 2001
Pepsi-Cola Company announced a global sponsorship and advertising agreement with Shakira, the Latin pop sensation and Grammy award winner who’s been thrilling music fans in Latin America and the U.S. for seven years. Now Shakira’s looking to expand her presence in mainstream America with her new “crossover” English album. Before selling a single English-language record in the States however, she’ll have fans singing along to her original version of the Pepsi song.
Shakira’s new relationship with Pepsi-Cola — a company with a long tradition of working with some of the biggest names in the music industry — calls for collaboration on Pepsi advertising including two new TV commercials and sponsorship of Shakira’s worldwide concert tour beginning later this year. The new TV commercials — in English and Spanish — are scheduled to begin airing this week on MTV, WB, FOX, Univision, Telemundo and other outlets. The TV spots will run throughout the balance of the year.
“Shakira’s not only a talented singer/songwriter, she’s also a role model who expresses the feelings of a new generation of Latino youth,” said Charlee Taylor-Hines, director of urban and ethnic marketing for Pepsi-Cola Company. “She’s already a tremendous success in Latin America, and we expect her love of music and unique creative style to be embraced by Pepsi consumers in markets all around the United States.”
