Sundance Channel Reprises ‘Arte Latino’.

Sundance Channel returns to the world of Latin American cinema with its Arte Latino FilmFest from September 15 to 22, 2002. The third edition of Arte Latino(TM) brings viewers the television premiere of eight recent feature films and eleven short films from all over Latin America, with works from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Cuba and Venezuela. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, Arte Latino(TM) kicks off on September 15th with Marcelo Pineyro’s film Burnt Money at 9:00 pm ET/PT.

Each of the eight feature films in the Arte Latino(TM) lineup has received wide acclaim in their home countries and at festivals worldwide. They include: Luis R. Vera’s tale of exile and ostracism, Bastards in Paradise (Bastardos en el paraiso) (Chile) September 18th at 9:00 pm; Gustavo Balza’s urban drama Caracas Love Unto Death (Caracas amor a muerte aka El Valle) (Venezuela) September 17th at 9:00 pm; Humberto Solas’ road movie Honey for Oshun (Miel para Oshun) (Cuba) September 21st at 9:00 pm; Fernando Meirelles and Nando Olival’s ensemble comedy Maids (Domesticas) (Brazil) September 16th at 9:00 pm; Alberto Lecchi’s romantic drama Nuts for Love (Nueces para el amor) (Argetina) September 22nd at 9:00 pm and Victor Gaviria’s contemporary adaptation of “The Little Match Girl” The Rose Seller (La Vendedora De Rosas) (Columbia) September 19th at 9:00 pm. In addition, the series presents two films that played to wide acclaim in limited U.S. theatrical runs: Argentine director Marcelo Pineyro’s erotic crime thriller Burnt Money (Plata quemada) (Argentina), and Pablo Trapero’s neo-realist drama Crane World (Mundo grua) (Argentina).

Arte Latino(TM) also showcases a diverse selection of eleven short films from Latin American nations including Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba, El Salvador and Mexico. Sundance Channel will air two special Arte Latino(TM) editions of the Sunday night series “Shorts Stop: An Hour of Short Films” on Sunday, September 15 and 22 at 8:00 pm.
