TeleFutura’s ‘Camino A Objetivo Fama: The New York Special’
December 28, 2004
The TeleFutura Network will broadcast an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at local area finalists’ progression from their first auditions to their selection as final contestants in “Objetivo Fama,” TeleFutura’s talent search for the next Latin music superstar. The TV special “Camino A Objetivo Fama: The New York Special” will air on Saturday, January 29 at 6:00 PM on TeleFutura (WFUT 68 and WFTY 67).
Saturday’s special episode, which documents the contestants’ first steps on the road to the fame, will give viewers a closer look at the New York Area auditions. Interviews and background footage will give viewers an inside look at the hopes and dreams of candidates who aspire to become the next Latin music sensation.
From the New York auditions, Puerto Ricans Frances Marrero (Buffalo, NY) and Jayro Rosado (Orange, NJ) and Dominicans Carolyn Acevedo (Bronx, NY) and Anais Martínez (Bronx, NY) were selected as semifinalists from more than one thousand hopefuls from across America. The semi-finalists have been narrowed down to the field of 20 contestants since “Objetivo Fama” premiered on January 9. Of the New York Area’s semi-finalists, only Anais and Jayro will be among the finalists who will travel to Puerto Rico to be part of the competition that continues on January 30.
In addition to New York, auditions for “Objetivo Fama” were held in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, San Juan, Houston, Phoenix, and San Francisco. Finalists from those screenings will join the New Yorkers in Puerto Rico.
Fans who tune in January 30 and each subsequent Sunday will be able to vote for their favorite contestants to continue on the road to fame. Over the next 14 weeks, TeleFutura’s cameras will document the contestants as they undergo the rigors of a training academy where they will live as a group in Puerto Rico. At the academy, they will take intense voice and dance lessons and perform onstage for judges who have been selected from the entertainment industry. Each week judges will identify 3 contestants who may be eliminated from the competition. Before the final decision is made each week, however, the academy’s director will spare one contestant from elimination. TeleFutura viewers will rescue a second candidate from elimination by casting their vote via a toll- free number or by sending a text message via their Cingular Wireless phones.
The winner will be chosen on May 1st during the “Objetivo Fama” finale. The new star will be awarded a contract with Univision Music Group, the leading Latin record company in the United States, as well as a special prize package that includes a new General Motors car.
