Looking to build on a successful programming strategy with record ratings, including the best Prime delivery among Adults 18-49 in a decade, Telemundo announced an unprecedented 2004-2005 programming schedule which will present 100% original Primetime productions, a first in U.S. Hispanic television history.
Telemundo President & CEO James McNamara unveiled the new schedule at Telemundo’s 2004-2005 Upfront presentation to advertisers at the Beacon Theater in New York City.
“A year ago, I made a promise that Telemundo would make a complete, dramatic change in our programming direction, by producing original programs focusing on our audience here in the United States.” McNamara said. “That promise was kept — 75% of our Primetime schedule were original Telemundo productions-and our ratings have grown consistently throughout the season, reclaiming the title of being the fastest-growing network for Hispanics.”

NEW 2004-2005 PROGRAMMING ON TELEMUNDO
PRIMETIME – NOVELAS
Following is the prime-time line-up beginning Monday, August 30:
Kicking off the block at 7PM ET\PT, “Anita: ¡No Te Rajes!” (Anita: Don’t Give Up!), chronicles the life of Anita Guerrero, played by Ivonne Montero, who won the hearts of U.S. Hispanic viewers as the lovable Betsabe in Amor Descarado. This time, she is a beautiful, young, and energetic Mexican woman who illegally crosses the U.S.-Mexican border in search for her aunt. Her new life quest is filled with hardships and forbidden love as well as hilarious adventures sure to make the audience cheer for this very special character.
“La Mujer en el Espejo” (The Woman in the Mirror) 8PM ET\PT After being rejected, humiliated and set up, an unattractive Ana Soler (Pasión de Gavilanes’ Zharick León) is granted her wish of becoming beautiful with the help of a “fairy godmother.” Ana is warned that she must not seek revenge, but justice. This will prove to be harder than it seems since at first her beauty brings out the worse in her. This is the story about a woman who discovers real beauty must come from within. Also starring is Juan Alfonso Baptista.
“Gitanas” (Gypsies) 9PM ET\PT, Telemundo’s biggest production to date, is the story of Maria Salomé, a young and stunning gypsy woman who falls in love with a “gayó” (a non-gypsy man), Sebastián. From the moment they meet, it is love at first sight. However, their love is forbidden by the gypsy code and judged because of the racism that exists against their flamboyant culture. Ana de la Reguera, Manolo Cardona, Dolores Heredia and, for the first time on Telemundo, Saul Lizaso star in this novela.
Closing the night at 10PM ET\PT is a father and son facing off for the love of a woman in “Te Voy a Enseñar a Querer” (I Will Teach You to Love) – This beautiful and intense story, brought by the creators of the mega hit Pasion de Gavilanes, marks the return of Miguel Varoni (Pedro el Escamoso) to the Telemundo screen. Varoni plays Alejandro, a widower who gets a second chance at love when he meets Diana (Danna Garcia/Pasion de Gavilanes). Also in this stellar cast are Catherine Siachoque, Michel Brown and Jorge Cao.

“El Frijol” (Little Bean) is the tender and beautiful story about a very special boy who steals everyone’s heart. Given the endearing nickname for his small size, El Frijol is a brilliant boy with a big heart who believes his father passed away when he was a baby. But in reality, his father, David is very much alive. David’s life is turned upside down when he meets Frijol who warms his seemingly bitter heart with his tenderness. Neither Frijol nor David realize they are father and son.
“Una Mexicana en Nueva York” (A Mexican Woman in NY), is the story of Angela, a woman who returns to New York to reclaim her twin sons after wrongly being imprisoned. Upon her return, Angela meets Tom, a U.S. Army official who
coincidentally saves her life and is immediately astounded by her beauty. Their love will have to overcome an arduous battle against hate, envy and resentment caused by their pasts and their families. Mexican superstar novela actor Mauricio Islas and Minerva Ruvalcaba star in this novela, the first to be set in New York.
“Volver al Paraíso” (Return to Paradise) tells the story of Julia Toledo, a beautiful and industrious Oaxacan woman, whose biggest desire is to recover the land that once belonged to her family, “El Paraíso.” Julia faces off with Andrés Castañeda, a Mexican-American man who is sent against his will by his father to buy the land. This gives way to a rocky battle which leads them to fall in love. Lorena Rojas (“Ladron de Corazones”), Mauricio Ochman and Mexican icon Humberto Zurita, star in this passionate story of love and betrayal.
REALITY
Audiences remain captivated by reality shows, and Telemundo owns reality on
Spanish- language television. This season the network offers new stories sure to get audiences talking by the water cooler.
From one of the most recognized and respected names in the music industry, Emilio Estefan, comes “Nuevas Voces de America.” Throughout several weeks, several aspiring stars will live together as they begin to mold their professional image alongside Emilio’s team of experts. Each week the competition sets off with a different “musical encounter” all leading to the two-hour “Grand Finale.” That is where the new voice of America will be crowned.
And from the creator of La Cenicienta, comes the next great romantic reality show, “El Príncipe Azul” a Prince Charming story where it’s now the man’s turn to pick the lady of his dreams! One handsome bachelor, 20 beautiful Latinas, one big secret! Each woman will try her best to impress him and ultimately win his heart.
Take 16 “city slickers” (8 men and 8 women), put them on a ranch and give them the Ultimate Challenge: to become the country’s # 1 Ranchero. This is “La Hacienda.” Urban dwellers are put to the test as they live together facing unimaginable challenges on the wide-open range where they either do the chores or hit the road.
DAYTIME
Telemundo continues to deliver quality daytime programming this fall with
new shows and returning favorites.
Kicking off the daytime block at 10 AM ET/PT, from the creators of some of the most renowned novelas in the world, is “El Color del Pecado.” A new drama of love and betrayal with a stellar cast including: Taís Araujo (“Xica”), Reynaldo Gianecchini (“Terra Esperanza”, “Lazos de Familia”) and Giovanna Antonelli (“El Clon”), this show is one in which a man will be torn between terrible deception and the excitement of a new passion.
The new show “Mariana” takes a fresh and fun-filled approach to Daytime Programming everyday at 12 PM ET/PT. The program celebrates family values, the art of motherhood and the joys of being a woman. Host Mariana Fabbiani, one of the most beloved and popular Argentine TV personalities, injects color and life into everyday family and home themes in a unique and entertaining fashion.
Heart warming tales, laughter and tears are the three basic ingredients for Telemundo’s new one-hour daily talk show, “Rocio,” which will air at 1 PM ET/PT. Mexico’s most admired and loved talk show host Rocio Sánchez Azuara, extends her helping hand to a whole new viewing audience. The program will present a wide variety of problems and conflicts which are common to us all and, more importantly, present a resolution to help guests and viewers live
more fulfilled lives.
At 2 PM ET/PT comes an audience favorite, “Cotorreando,” one of Mexico’s most renowned entertainment personalities, Monica Noguera, joins Mauricio Zeilic and Estaban Arce as co-host. The revamped entertainment show continues to present a different approach at delivering the latest news on everyone’s favorite stars. With a new set and a new powerful segment, Acceso Ilimitado, in a venture with NBC’s Access Hollywood, this season “Cotorreando” is better than ever.
Closing out Daytime at 3 PM ET/PT, is “Caso Cerrado,” the new and improved version of favorite court show, Sala de Parejas, with Spanish-language television’s most respected attorney, Ana María Polo. The honest and admired arbitrator resolves once and for all some of the most heated personal and family battles on TV today. Moreover, the show takes a new spin as Ana María gives an in depth look at the truth behind her guests’ claims, before making the ultimate decision which will solve their disputes.
WEEKEND DAY
With four new shows on weekend daytime, there’s no time to rest! All weekend long Telemundo’s got everything from home improvement to parenting to music.
Makeover madness makes its way to Spanish-language television in this first of a series of home improvement shows. Virtually anything that you could want to fix up in your home can be accomplished within your budget, thanks
to “Así se Hace” a show selecting a lucky family for a complete one-room
home makeover.
Telemundo has given birth to a new show for mothers. “Todo Bebé” is an entertaining and educational series about pregnancy and parenting. Hosted by Jeannette Kaplun, Maggie Jiménez and Adriana Abascal, three talented and experienced mothers, the show discusses a variety of topics for U.S. Latin families and new parents-to-be.
Beautiful “rancheritas” and hot “cowboys” dance to the beat of the hottest regional-Mexican and tropical tunes in the new musical show, “Rancho Pachanga.” These two popular music genres’ biggest stars stop by “El Rancho” for an hour of fun including music, video premieres, exclusive live performances, lots of dancing, and of course, “pachanga”.
“Música Pop” is a vibrant weekend music magazine featuring some of the hottest music video releases, exclusive celebrity interviews, and a behind-the-scenes backstage look into all major music events. Also, the show features segments like “fan” of the week, and an in-depth look at the latest industry news delivered by Latin music’s most popular radio personalities from across the nation. The show is hosted by the beautiful Natalia Villaveces.
SPECIALS
Telemundo stands out for its originality and this upcoming season our specials are definite must-see events.
Telemundo presents: “Tributo a Nuestros Héroes,” a televised concert special with top Latino acts, produced by Emilio Estefan. Televised from the most important naval base in the United States, the tribute honors the Hispanic soldiers who left behind their homes and families in support of our great nation.
“En Concierto Series” features the crème de la crème of the Latin music world, such as Pilar Montenegro, Banda el Recodo, and many more in exclusive “can’t miss” concert performances. Also new this year, the internationally renowned “Festival Mariachi desde Las Vegas” now the largest Mexican Independence Day celebration in the world, will air on television for the first time ever.
EVENT TELEVISION
In the tradition of “Zapata,” airing this fall, comes another Telemundo original epic mini series: “Benito Juárez.” This is the amazing true story of a simple shepherd boy who was destined to become the president of Mexico. A courageous man, Benito was able to defeat Maximilian of Augsburg and regain control of Mexico City during the French invasion. His legacy is immeasurable as he was a man who fought alongside his people, establishing
the basis for democracy and freedom of today’s Mexico.
SPORTS
Live from Athens, Greece, Telemundo is making history by being the first U.S. network ever to broadcast the Olympic Games in Spanish. By Hispanics and for Hispanics, Telemundo brings this extraordinary event from August 11 through the 29th by offering viewers over 130 hours of programming, the most in-depth Olympic coverage in U.S. Hispanic television. The typical daily schedule will run from 1pm until 8 pm Eastern & Pacific Time.
Telemundo sports anchors, Andrés Cantor and Jessi Losada, are the Olympics official broadcast hosts alongside a team of sportscasters that include Alejandro Blanco, Edgar López, Claudia Trejos, René Giraldo, Leti Coo, Raúl Márquez, and Adrian García Márquez. But, most importantly, Telemundo will emphasize on the sports that Hispanic fans are passionate about – soccer and boxing, among others. And, since Hispanics also have strong national allegiances, now, they will be able to see their favorite teams in their native language.
In addition, Telemundo will be the only network to deliver World Cup qualifying matches in three exciting packages: “Rumbo al Mundial Mexico,” “Rumbo al Mundial Estados Unidos,” and “Rumbo al Mundial Internacional.”
