Telemundo 47 In NYC Launches Mexican Voter Registration Campaign.

For the first time in history, Mexicans living abroad will be able to vote in the 2006 Mexican Presidential Elections. Beginning this Wednesday, Telemundo 47 will air a series of special reports during the station’s 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts that will provide information on this historic event including how and where U.S. based Mexicans can register to vote as well as in depth reports on the candidates.

In addition, Telemundo 47 will assist callers with voting questions, registration procedures and eligibility via a free phone bank on Thursday, December 15 and Friday, December 16 (5 p.m.-7 p.m.). Viewers can call 1-888-228-2247 to speak with experts from the Mexican Consulate in New York, Asociación Tepeyac and Casa Puebla. On Friday, December 16, the station’s 6 p.m. newscast will also offer exclusive interviews with Arturo Sarukhan, Mexico’s Consul General in New York and Jaime Lucero, Executive Director of Casa Puebla.

Telemundo 47 will also join forces with Asociación Tepeyac on Saturday, December 17 (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) to host a voter registration drive to take place at 251 West 14th Street in Manhattan. Telemundo 47’s correspondent Madelyn Vega will be on hand to greet visitors. The community drive will offer free counseling and advice on how the Mexican community can register to vote for Mexico’s 2006 presidential elections.
