Telemundo 51 & Baptist Health Breast Center initiative.

WSCV Telemundo 51 and Baptist Health Breast Center have developed a multi-platform initiative to provide comprehensive information, as well as awareness of available services and support systems, that will be of great value to everyone about the critical health issue of breast cancer. Starting on Monday, September 24th and continuing every Monday through October 29th, Telemundo 51 will follow the journey of a breast cancer patient from diagnosis through surgery and treatment, on-air during the 6:00pm newscast and on-line.

The patient, Maria Hernandez, will speak about her battle with breast cancer in a courageous and positive way and she herself will also be documenting her experiences on her video blog on a dedicated page at telemundo51.com. The blog’s purpose is to help other women who might be going through similar situations, whether they are just beginning to deal with the diagnosis, or facing a mastectomy, or contemplating reconstructive surgery.

“Baptist Health Breast Center knows there are many in the Hispanic population who are not getting their yearly mammograms, and we want people to understand how early detection can increase chances of survival,” said Nancy Batista-Rodriguez, vice president of Baptist Health Breast Center.

“A primary goal of this initiative is that by the end of the six weeks of coverage, Telemundo 51 and Baptist Health Breast Center, along with Ms. Hernandez’s personal experiences, will have reached as many people as possible with access to critical resources and information,” said Jorge Carballo, Telemundo 51’s President and General Manager.
