Telemundo 52 – 1st Spanish-language TV station to have HD on cable.
November 22, 2008
Telemundo 52 announced that as of December 17th KVEA would be the first Spanish-language station in the country to air High Definition local programming on cable. Viewers will be able to watch Buenos Días at 5A and 6A, Al Mediodía at 11:30AM, Noticiero 52 at 6PM and En Contexto at 11PM; offering a total of 15 hours of local HD programming a week in most Time Warner Cable areas. These hours do not include the station’s program specials such as El Grito (Mexican Independence ceremony). In addition, it’s anticipated that by Q1 of 2009, Telemundo 52 will broadcast commercials in High Definition.
This important move marks yet another milestone for Telemundo 52, continuing to pave the way by becoming the leader in firsts. The station was the first to go completely digital, it was the first Spanish-language station to offer a local website, the first Spanish-language station to go High Definition and now it’s the first Spanish-language station to have High Definition cable carrier service.
“Now our Los Angeles audience will have the opportunity to enjoy watching first-class, high quality HD news and entertainment,” said José Valle, President & General Manager for Telemundo 52. “This makes it a real win for our LA audience.”
“Time Warner Cable is proud to partner with KVEA – Telemundo 52 to bring high quality, high definition programming into the homes of our customers,” said West Region Executive Vice President Stephen Pagano. “This partnership not only shows our commitment to providing the quality programming our Hispanic customers are requesting, but it compliments our ever growing HD product offerings for all of our customers.”
