Telemundo 52 honored during 61st Annual Golden Mike Awards Ceremony

Telemundo 52-KVEA, Telemundo’s flagship station in Los Angeles was honored this past Saturday during the 61st Annual Golden Mike Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Southern California Radio and Television Association. During the event, which took place at the Universal Hilton Los Angeles, veteran news journalist Jose Ronstadt received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Telemundo 52’s 6pm newscast was awarded a Golden Mike in the category of Best Spot News Reporting – Division A for Ruben Luenga’s piece on “AZ Protestors and Arrests.”
For his commitment to quality journalism, adherence to the highest principles of ethical integrity, service to the community, education, and the industry, and promotion of the First Amendment Rights of the Free Press throughout his entire career, Jose Ronstadt received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Ronstadt’s extensive career in local, national, and international television, which spans 30 years, includes experience as a top-level executive and public speaker as well as a television personality and respected journalist. He has worked as a news reporter and anchor for Telemundo’s KVEA TV 52 and KWHY TV. Ronstadt has been awarded several Golden Mikes that underline his journalistic versatility, including Golden Mikes for Best Newscast—Division A & Division B, Best Editorial Commentary, Best Hard News Reporting, showcasing the history of “Chavez Ravine,” Best Light News Reporting for “The Million Dollar Theatre,” Best Live Reporting for “The Chalino Sanchez Riots,” and Best News Special Series for his compelling immigration series, “Arizona: The Corridor of Death.”
Today, he continues to cover the most pressing issues in the Hispanic community. Most recently, he has been providing extensive coverage of the controversy regarding Arizona SB 1070 and the abuses of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. In Arizona, identified as the most anti-immigration state in the nation, as he has done in California, Mr. Ronstadt has contributed relentlessly to the ongoing struggle for civil rights. A native of Nogales, Sonora, Mr. Ronstadt earned B.A. and M.A. degrees from Arizona State University, which honored him in 2006 by creating the “Josè Ronstadt Outstanding Undergraduate Scholarship Award,” in recognition of his sustained contributions to academics and Latinos at the university.
The station’s 6PM newscast, Noticiero 52, was awarded a Golden Mike for Best Spot News Reporting for “Arizona Protestors and Arrests,” which was presented by seasoned news journalist Ruben Luengas.
