December 28, 2008
Telemundo 52, the flagship station of Telemundo Network in Los Angeles, recently announced their triumph during the 59th Annual Golden Mike Awards that took place this past Saturday at the Universal Sheraton Hotel. KVEA was honored with two Golden Mikes presented by the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California in the category of “Best Serious Feature Reporting” for the story “Tijuana Rambo.” The same report was bestowed with an award for “Best Video Editing of a Hard News Story, Series or Special.”
“We are extremely proud of having received this great honor and we thank the Radio & Television News Association and our entire team for their continued dedication to provide the best quality in journalistic programming to our viewers,” said Esteban Creste, Vice President of News, Telemundo 52.
“Tijuana Rambo” illustrated the level of violence that surrounds the city of Tijuana, Mexico. A city bordering the United States, where even its police chief, Jesus Alberto Capella Ibarra, has been the victim of a serious attempt on his life. It was this that transformed him into “Rambo” because he was forced to use guns to defend himself and his home against organized crime.
