The Telemundo broadcast station serving Colorado Springs, K49CJ, has inked a deal with Adelphia Cable to add KCJ to its line-up effective August 1, 2002. The Adelphia system serves 130,000 subscribers and an estimated 16,000 Hispanic subscribers in the 37th largest Hispanic market. Telemundo and Adelphia plan to launch a multimedia advertising campaign to run over the next several months to attract Spanish speaking subscribers to the Adelphia system.
“We are thrilled that K49CJ/Telemundo will now be a part of the Adelphia line-up in Colorado Springs. The decision by Adelphia to better serve the Latino customers reinforces the growing importance of the Latino market in Colorado Springs. Telemundo has been present in Colorado since 1987 and the expansion into Colorado Springs presents us with the opportunity to better serve our viewers and clients,” said Clara Rivas, General Manager of KMAS in Denver and K49CJ in Colorado Springs.
“Adelphia is excited about this opportunity to provide excellent Spanish-language programming to our Colorado Springs subscribers. Adelphia recognizes our growing diverse population and looks forward to meeting the needs of our customers,” said Mike Ross, Adelphia General Manager.
“The additional cable carriage in Colorado Springs represents an important distribution enhancement for Telemundo and is another step towards achieving our goal of reaching all U.S. Hispanics. We are pleased that Adelphia has recognized Telemundo as a key programming service necessary to grow and retain its Hispanic subscriber base,” said Alan Sokol, Chief Operating Officer of Telemundo Communications Group, Inc. “We believe that we offer the best and most varied Spanish-language programming in the U.S., and look forward to continuing our successful initiative to create partnerships with cable operators that represent ‘win-wins’ for all parties.”
