Telemundo Deportes Olympic Soccer Coverage

Telemundo Deportes will present the most extensive live Spanish-language coverage of the Olympics Women’s and Men’s soccer competitions.  Telemundo and Universo will present most matches live, including both gold-medal matches. All games televised will also be available on TelemundoDeportes.com and the Telemundo Deportes app. Live coverage will be complemented by daily highlights, recaps and re-air of select matches.

Coverage kicks off Wednesday, July 21 with the Women’s first round featuring Team USA’s debut against Sweden, live on Telemundo at 4:30 a.m. ET. Men’s coverage kicks off Thursday, July 22 highlighted by Mexico vs. France live on Telemundo at 4 a.m. ET. Andres Cantor and Manuel Sol will call the action for both matches, live from the Tokyo Stadium.

Telemundo Deportes’ coverage of the Men’s competition will be highlighted by the participating Latin American teams, including Mexico who seeks to repeat their 2012 triumph, Brazil as they defend the gold medal, two-time Olympic gold medal winner Argentina, and Honduras returning to their fourth consecutive games. Spain’s return after missing the 2016 Rio Olympics will also be highlighted along with Germany and France.

The Women’s competition will focus on four-time Olympic gold medal winning U.S. team as they look to continue making history and following their World Cup win in France 2019. In addition, Chile and Brazil will represent Latin America. While Chile will be making their Olympic soccer debut after their first run at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019, Brazil are one of the few national teams never to have missed a Women’s Olympic Tournament.

The voice of soccer in the U.S. and six-time Emmy Award-winning commentator Andres Cantor will lead the soccer team of commentators and will be calling the action of select matches from Japan, alongside former Olympian and analyst Manuel Sol – Cantor will also provide English-language play-by-play for select matches on the networks of NBCUniversal. Legendary Mexican goal scorer Carlos Hermosillo and renowned commentators Copan Alvarez, Sammy Sadovnik and Eduardo Biscayart will also be part of the team calling and analyzing the soccer action.  Pablo Aguabella and Carlos Yustis will complement the Men’s coverage, reporting live from Tokyo.

The Women’s competition will be highlighted by the participation of guest analysts and experts, including Amelia Valverde, current head coach of the Costa Rica Women’s National Team, who returns after contributing to our Women’s World Cup in 2019. Natalia Astrain will also join the coverage; she is a well-respected soccer coach from Spain who most recently joined NWSL’s Kansas City as assistant coach, after a long run in Spain with FC Barcelona, Atletico de Madrid and the Spanish Federation. Mexican reporter Arantza Fernandez will join as field reporter for select matches, focusing on Mexico and Team USA games.

A digital and social media crew will also be in Japan following the soccer production venue team to generate pre and post content around key matches that will be used across TelemundoDeportes.com and Telemundo Deportes’ social platforms.

Telemundo Deportes’ match coverage will be complemented by extensive news and analysis coverage including daily recaps, highlights, real-time updates from those matches played at the same time, live reactions, and more.
