Telemundo Expands Kids Segment.
December 24, 2004
With the New Year, the Spanish-language network has premiered an exclusive programming lineup for Hispanic kids in the US, featuring the popular “Jacob Two Two” , “Dora the Explorer”, expanded by an additional half hour on Sundays, and a new season of the acclaimed “Rugrats” from Nickelodeon.
This new season of Telemundo Kids will entertain and educate the young viewers with quality programming and popular characters that will captivate their attention.
Airing Sunday mornings at 9:30AM ET/PT, “Jacob Two Two” follows the adventures of quick-thinking leader, Jacob, nicknamed ‘Two-Two’ because at his size, he has to say everything twice just to be heard! Able to find creative ways to solve problems in his real and imagined worlds, Jacob’s precocious vocabulary makes him ‘two-two’ cool.
Repetition is an excellent creative and educational tool to engage viewers. Predictability of language patterns, combined with unusual vocabulary, are essential elements of a solid reading program for eight to 10-year-olds. Jacob introduces children to new vocabulary and reinforces it with by repeating it twice!
Produced by Canadian entertainment company Nelvana, “Jacob Two Two” models deductive and creative thinking, teamwork and leadership. The character has a strong sense of community and justice, and his actions demonstrate pro-social skills as he champions the underdog.
Saturday mornings at Telemundo continue to be full of adventures with Nickelodeon’s “Dora the Explorer” (8 to 9 AM ET/PT) and now expand to Sunday at 8am as well. “Dora the Explorer” is a play along, animated adventure series starring a seven-year-old Latina heroine who lives inside a computer. Together with her friend “Boots”, she encounters different challenges that she can only overcome with the help of the audience.
The show, designed with preschoolers in mind, teaches little kids problem-solving skills. Strategies for problem-solving like stopping to think, asking for help, and using what you know, are modeled in every “Dora the Explorer” episode. Viewers are also asked to be active participants, not only to answer questions, but they are also asked to get off the couch and move their bodies to emulate Dora and her friends.
Parents and children alike enjoy the fact that Dora is a problem solver who never gives up when faced with obstacles. She’s a caring friend always ready to stop and help someone in need. She is also an adventurer whose curiosity and spirit lead her to explore the world.
Lastly, Sunday mornings at 8:30 – 9:30AM ET/PT Telemundo presents the new season of Nickelodeon’s ever acclaimed “Rugrats”. Fun-filled and imaginative, this series takes kids through a variety of hilarious and exciting adventures no one but the “Rugrats” can come up with. The show highlights how a bit of imagination is all you need to live the greatest adventures and simply have some good old fun.
