Telemundo extends streak on delivering younger viewers in 2007.

Telemundo announced final year ratings for 2007. According to Nielsen Media Research data, Telemundo averaged 1,035,000 total viewers (P2 plus) in 2007, increasing 7% from the previous year in Monday through Friday Prime (970,000). Telemundo’s delivery of Adults 18-49 during Monday through Friday Prime averaged 586,000, increasing plus 4% vs. last year (562,000). The network also maintained its year over year growth in these time periods for December 2007, extending its streak to eight months of consecutive year over year growth.

In 2007, Telemundo’s delivery of the younger, Adults 18-34 demo, during Monday through Friday Prime averaged 310,000, growing plus 10% vs. last year (283,000). By attracting younger viewers in 2007, Telemundo lowered its median age in primetime from 37 to 35 years old.

Telemundo made history in 2007 by opening its own studio and producing the first novela ever produced by a foreign company in Mexico. The novela, El Engano, is scheduled to air in first quarter of 2008. The network also premiered its first novela shot in high-definition, Zorro, which became one of Telemundo’s most successful novelas averaging 1,150,000 total viewers over the course of its entire run. In December 2007, Telemundo premiered Victoria with 800,000 Adults 18-49 tuning in, making it Telemundo’s most watched novela premiere in 2007. The network also launched innovating programming last year, such as Al Rojo Vivo Weekend, the late-night talk show Mas Vale Tarde and dating show, 12 Corazones, in primetime.

MOVIES AND HOLIDAY SPECIALS

Telemundo was the movie destination in Saturday prime in 2007. Among A18-49, Telemundo aired the top two movies of the year, four of the top five, seven of the top 10 and 15 of the top 20 films on Saturday night. Among total viewers, Telemundo broadcast the top four movies in 2007, nine of the top 10 and 17 of the top 20 titles this year.

End of year specials spurred Telemundo to end 2007 on a spectacular note. The Christmas Eve primetime movie festival averaged 579,000 Adults 18-49 and garnered a 31 share of the audience watching the three major Spanish-language broadcast networks. On Christmas Day, Telemundo’s 12 Corazones special averaged 708,000 Adults 18-49 and 402,000 Adults 18-34, making it Telemundo’s highest rated entertainment special of the season (excluding movies and sports). At the start of the New Year, Telemundo aired a primetime film festival which averaged over 1 million Adult 18-49 viewers, including 1.2 million for the 9-11pm Cantiflas movie, El Patrullero 777, and garnered a 38 share of Spanish.

SPORTS

In 2007, Telemundo’s ten Mexican National Team’s Rumbo Al Mundial games averaged plus 80% higher than the 2006 average among Adults 18-49 (1,383,000 vs. 767,000 impressions). The men and women demos both showed dramatic growth year to year: Men 18-49 were up plus 82% (953,000 vs. 525,000) and Women 18-49 were up plus 77% (429,000 vs. 242,000).

Since the integration of the Hispanic sample into the general market sample in Los Angeles in late August, KVEA has increased its viewership in several dayparts. KVEA’s early news at 6pm delivered 154,000 total viewers in December 2007 increasing plus 41% from September 2007 (109,000). Primetime for KVEA grew plus 29% delivering 133,000 total viewers in December vs. 103,000 in September 2007.

New York- WNJU

WNJU’s 7-8pm time period came in first in total viewers (237,000) and Adults 18-49 (132,000). Caso Cerrado ranked #1 in the time period in 2007 across all Spanish-language broadcast stations among total viewers (187,000), Adults 18-49 (71,000), Adults 18-34 (30,000), and Adults 25-54 (48,000).

Miami- WSCV
WSCV also brought in top honors across the Spanish-language stations last year in the early hours of prime time. In the 7-8pm time period, WSCV brought in 126,500 total viewers and 49,300 among Adults 18-49. During 8-9pm, WSCV was #1 in the time period across the Spanish-language stations among total viewers (146,900). Caso Cerrado also ranked #1 in its time period in 2007 across Spanish-language stations for total viewers (85,700) and homes (66,000).
