Telemundo Global Studio inks deal with Planeta

Telemundo Global Studios announced it has signed an agreement with Planeta to license the exclusive rights to the complete library of best-selling Spanish author, Corín Tellado, including close to 4,000 titles.  The unprecedented deal marks the first time a Spanish-language production studio has licensed the rights to a single author’s complete collection of works, providing Telemundo Global Studios exclusive rights to produce modern-day adaptations of Tellado’s everlasting tales in multiple formats including episodic, short and long-form series, for linear and digital platforms.  Under the terms of the agreement, Planeta will provide consulting services for the selection and adaptation of titles via its transmedia content division, Stories.

Corín Tellado, one of the most prolific and best-selling authors of all time, penned nearly 4,000 titles throughout her career and has sold over 400 million books, more than top international best-selling writers such as Stephen King, Paulo Coelho or Tolkien.  Born in Asturias, Spain, she is best-known as the “great dame” of the romantic novel who composed innumerous stories of romance, drama, love triangles and family sagas.  Her stories are well-known for their strong female characters, who face intense and difficult situations and, against all odds, take control of their lives in their quest for “true love.”  According to UNESCO, she is the most read Spanish writer, after only Miguel de Cervantes and was given the same recognition by Guinness World Records in 1994.  Her works have been translated into 27 different languages.

Some of Tellado’s best-selling titles include: No le hagas caso a tu hija (Don’t Pay Attention to your Daughter), No está loca (She Isn’t Crazy), Nadie te conoce (Nobody Knows You), Historia de dos mujeres (Story of Two Women) and El Cambió mi vida (He Changed My Life.)
