Telemundo goes green.
September 24, 2007
Beginning Sunday, November 4, Telemundo goes green with its campaign “Alerta Verde” (Green Alert) focused on protecting the environment. During the entire week, which culminates Saturday, November 10, the Telemundo network and stations will highlight environmental issues to educate and increase viewers’ awareness in order to promote protecting the environment.
“In our diverse and ever changing world, we all have different needs and priorities. One need and one priority that should unite us all are the protection and quality of our environment,” said Don Browne, President of Telemundo network.
As part of NBC Universal’s “Green is Universal” initiative, Telemundo, pioneer of the award-winning segment “Alerta Verde,” will offer various specials highlighting the “green theme” during its entertainment, news and sports shows. Following are the program highlights:
Cada Día (6:30am/5:30 CT) ˆ Telemundo’s morning show will offer various segments and special interviews related to the green topic during the entire week.
Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste (5pm/4 CT) ˆ Award-winning segment “Alerta Verde” will air every day this week in order to educate viewers about specific topics such as global warming, recycling, options and alternatives to improve planet Earth. This segment, which usually airs on Thursdays, launched in November 2006, and has been recognized for its contribution to the Hispanic community. In addition, María Celeste joins NBC Universal’s award-winning public service campaign, “The More You Know,” which will debut brand new environmentally themed spots to be broadcast across all platforms.
Caso Cerrado (2pm/1 CT) ˆ Telemundo’s court show will present a legal case in which Ana Maria Polo will resolve a dispute related to an environment issue.
12 Corazones (7pm/6 CT) ˆ The popular dating show also goes green with an episode in which Penélope Menchaca and astrologist Edward’O join efforts to save planet Earth through the zodiac signs in a unique show.
Nítido (Saturdays and Sundays at 12pm/11am CT) and Descontrol (Saturdays at 1pm/12 CT) ˆ These two youth-oriented shows, which feature music, fun and adventure, join this initiative with special segments that invited Latino youth to join Telemundo’s effort.
Sports Programs ˆ Deportes Telemundo also joins the cause with special programs within Titulares y Más (Thursdays at 11:30pm/10:30 central); Titulares Telemundo (Saturdays and Sundays at 11pm/10 CT or after the local newscast) and Ritmo Deportivo (Sundays at 11:30am/10:30 CT).
Telemundo Stations ˆ Throughout the nation, local stations will offer their communities stories through their newscasts and websites. Under the theme of “Cuida lo Verde” (Take care of the Green), the stations will air stories and tips as part of the effort that began last April through NBC’s “Going Green.” Participating stations include: KVEA 52 (Los Angeles), WNJU 47 (New York), WSCV 51 (Miami), WSNS 44 (Chicago), WKAQ 2 (Puerto Rico) and Telemundo’s Production Center for the San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, San Jose, Phoenix and Tucson markets.
